Norma Smallwood

Norma Descygne Smallwood (1909 – May, 1966) was Miss America in 1926.
Smallwood, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma and student at Oklahoma State University, was the first Native American (Cherokee) to win the crown.[1] She was married twice. Her first marriage, to Thomas Gilcrease on September 3, 1928 was dissolved on October 3, 1933. Her second husband was George H. Bruce, president of Aladdin Petroleum Corporation. She died in Wichita, Kansas in 1966.
