Norman "Hoot" Hooten is a fictional Delta Force operator created for the film Black Hawk Down which captures the events of the Battle of Mogadishu. His character is composed of several non-fictional soldiers who participated in the actual Battle of Mogadishu. In the film, he is portrayed by Eric Bana.

The character's name is derived from a non-fiction U.S. Delta Force operator carrying the name Norman Hooten. The only occurrence that was inspired by Hooten was when Bana's character speaks to Captain Steele at the U.S. airport about his safety when Captain Steele confronts him for having the safety off on his rifle. All other occurrences are based on a combination of two other Delta Force operators. "Hoot" Gibson is also the moniker for the real life, Robert "Hoot" Gibson, the spacecraft commander of STS-27.
