Norland College

Norland College was founded in 1892 by Emily Ward and is internationally recognised as a premier provider of childcare training and education. Norland trainees are employed world-wide as nannies, nursery nurses and in other positions in a variety of early years settings. There are a number of notable children that attended either the daycare or boarding units, as well as notable staff who have trained there.
Throughout its history the college has been based at various locations throughout the UK, notably Chislehurst, Kent, but is presently based in Bath.

- An urban legend persists that Diana Spencer trained as a nanny at Norland, but this remains unverified. Diana Spencer was an untrained nursery assistant and likely did not attend Norland. Her educational qualifications would not have gained her a place at Norland.
- In February 1999, the first male nanny trainee was accepted since the inception of the college in 1892.
- A graduate of the college can be stripped of the diploma if he/she contravenes the principles of Norland. This way the college maintains its high reputation.
- A family, that employs a Nanny from Norland college, can pay around €30,000 per annum (rate as of 2006).
- A so-called Sky Nannies diploma was introduced, in 2006, which specializes in the care of children during in airplane trips.
