As of January 1, 2007 Nordfyn municipality will, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), come into existence as a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Denmark. It will consist of the current municipalities of Bogense, Otterup and Søndersø. This will create a municipality with an area of 451 km² and a total population of 29,195 (2007). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").

It was originally planned that the new entity should have continued the existing name of Bogense municipality but a local referendum preferred the name Nordfyn and this decision has been approved by the Danish Interior Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, in June 2006. [1]
