Nordeste Linhas Aereas Regionais is an airline based in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It was a regional carrier operating scheduled services to more than 40 destinations in Brazil under the Varig brand. After Varig was sold in August 2006 to Volo, the "old Varig" and its debt was inherited by Nordeste Linhas Aereas.

As of October 2006 the CEO Miguel Dau declared that the airline wants to resume operations at the beginning of 2007 using five aircraft to destinations inside and outside Brazil. He also stated that the headquarters will be transferred from Salvador to Rio de Janeiro.

[edit] History

The airline was established and started operations in June 1976. It was formed by the Bahia state government which provided two-thirds of the start-up capital, with Transbrasil providing the rest. It was once owned by Varig Participacoes em Transportes Aereos (VPTA) (99%). Now it has acquired the debt-stricken "old Varig."

[edit] Services

Nordeste Linhas Aereas Regionais operated services (in its own right) to the following domestic scheduled destinations (at January 2005): Porto Seguro, Salvador and São Paulo.

[edit] Fleet

Nordeste Linhas Aereas Regionais currently does not have a fleet. In the beginning of 2007, operations are scheduled to resume with an initial fleet of 5* aircraft.
