Norbert Nachtweih

Norbert Nachtweih (born June 4, 1957 in Sangerhausen, former German Democratic Republic) is a German former professional football defender.

He played from 1978 until 1992 as defender and midfielder for Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich. Afterwards he went to French Ligue 1 side AS Cannes (1989-1991), where he played together with Zinedine Zidane and appeared in 43 games. Subsequently he returned to Eintracht Frankfurt and retired in 1996 in 2. Bundesliga at Waldhof Mannheim. In the GDR he played in the youth academy of Motor Sangerhausen, Traktor Polleben and MK Eisleben. In the DDR-Oberliga he played for Chemie Halle.

With Eintracht he won the UEFA Cup in 1980 and in 1981 the DFB cup. With Bayern he won the German Championship in 1985, 1986,1987 and 1989 and the DFB cup in 1984 and 1986.

Nachtweih began his career as football in the German Democratic Republic, flew in October 1976 at a U21-Länderspiel together with Jürgen Pahl from Turkey to West Germany and got suspended for one year by the FIFA. Although beeing one of the best German footballers in the 1980s FIFA formalities forbid a career in the West German national team due to selections for the GDR. Like many other Frankfurt players he was taken in by Bauherrenmodell that reputedly should save taxes. To pay off his debts, he had to sign a higher paid contracht at Bayern Munich.

After he active career he became manager of SV Bernbach and FK Pirmasens (first as youth manager, then senior manager).

At present he works for the football academy of Eintracht Frankfurt.
