Talk:NOPEC

The only references to "NOPEC" that I've been able to find refer to an American bill designed to allow lawsuits against oil cartels [1]. Googling for "nopec opec -judiciary" yielded only 899 results, many of in reference to the NOPEC legislation. Also, the only substantive statement, "In 2005, NOPEC represented approximately 50% of petroleum exports." is now dealt with more accurately in the OPEC article, where it reads: "OPEC's member countries hold about two-thirds of the world's oil reserves. In 2005, OPEC accounted for 41.7% of the world's oil production, compared with 23.8% by OECD members and 14.8% by the Former Soviet Union. [2]"
I believe this page should be deleted or rewritten to cover the American legislation. Here's a link to the senate version: [3], and here's a link to the identical version in the house: [4]. MrZaiustalk 15:43, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
The term is used more broadly in the industry than in reference to that legislation, and indeed predates it. The last two links on the External Links section include references to NOPEC in the sense of the non-OPEC oil exporters.
If you are going to write an article on the "No to OPEC" legislation, I would suggest we would need a disambig page.

- Even if the term is a valid one, I believe it more appropriate to move the definition to the Wikipedia and introduce a short statement about the term to a relevant section of OPEC, rather than breaking it up into a seperate article. There doesn't seem to be much to be said on the subject that isn't already said in OPEC. See Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary MrZaiustalk 13:53, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
