Nokk

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The male counterpart of the Nixe, the Nokk is a Germanic and Scandinavian water spirit. A lot more temperamental and carnivorous than the female, Nokks live secluded in ponds, lakes and rivers, and will attack and try to eat anybody who comes too close to their home waters.

Nokks generally resemble an old merman with a long beard and green eyes, but they can shapeshift and take on many other forms as well. The most common is that of some sort of waterfowl; other forms include horses, half-sunken boats and precious objects. Nokks scream when a shipwreck is taking place, and will sometimes play on golden harps to lure victims to them.
