Nội Bài International Airport (IATA: HAN, ICAO: VVNB), the biggest airport in northern Vietnam, serves the capital city of Hanoi. The airport is 28 miles (45km) from the city's downtown. Travel time by taxi is 30 to 45 minutes.

The airport is small compared to the other two international airports in Vietnam, but it is newer and more modern.
There is a 3,800 m paved runway with a second one under construction (as of 2002).

- April 7, 2005: Tiger Airways started 3-weekly flights between Hanoi and Singapore after launching direct route between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore on April 1, 2005. Tiger Airways became the first budget airline operating in Vietnam.
- October 17, 2005: The low cost carrier Air Asia launched direct route between Hanoi and Bangkok. This is the second no-frills airline serving Vietnam after Tiger Airways.
In 2006, this airport received approx 3.5 million passengers and accounting one third of international departures and arrivals in Vietnam's three international airports.

Hanoi city bus number 07 and 17 connect Noi Bai airport with Hanoi city center. The bus stop is just on the right side of the terminal exit. Traveling by bus costs 5000 VND (0.3 USD) per person and takes about one hour. Buses run from 5 a.m. to 22 p.m.
Airport taxi costs 150'000 VND (9 USD) and no surcharge. A taxi to city center takes about 30 minutes.
There is also the Airport Minubus, which is 22000 VND or 25000 VND (1.6 USD) but only runs when it's full.
Minibuses and taxis park right in from of the airport exit gate. There are several companies operating several kinds of taxi/minibus but they are almost the same in price and service.
