Noel Swaranjit Sen

Mr. Noel Swaranjit Sen was Director General of Police (DGP) in the state of Andhra Pradesh in south India. His predecessor was Mr. S.R. Sukumara[1].

[edit] Personal history
Mr. Sen seems to be belong a princely family of Bengal that converted to Christianity and moved into India during the Partition of India. Noel did his schooling from the Doon School. Among his contemporaries in the School were the late Rajiv Gandhi, Arun Puri of India Today and Amitabh Bachchan. He is also an alumni of St. Stephen's College, Delhi (1967 batch). His contemporaries there include Kabir Bedi, Kapil Sibal and others. His family includes eldest daughter Sharon - a civil servant who is currently in Chandigarh with her husband and son, Karina - married with children in the USA, Monty - a banker who lives in Hyderabad and Stephen - a lawyer married with a son, living in Hyderabad.

He earlier had a short stint in the Indian Army and then joined the police force. He was Superintendent of Police in Kurnool district. For a long period, he was the Director-General of Fire Services before being elevated to the position of Home Secretary in 2004. Mr. Bharat Chandra was his predecessor as Home Secretary. This was during the Chandrababu Government.
After a brief period, he became the Director-General of Police. Setting controversies aside, he spoke out to his police community that his selection was not based on any undue influence but on pure merit.[2]. His record is straight.
He is a professional policeman. An expert in tackling Naxalism, he has been invited by other states torn with naxal menace.[3]

As a church-goer, he testified about his faith in Jesus Christ many times.[citation needed]
His wife was involved in a case of smuggling Indian orphans without proper legal means to other countries with the help of some Christian missionaries[4].
He is also a supporter of the Bible Society of India.[citation needed]
