Noel is a city in McDonald County, Missouri, along the Elk River. The population was 1,480 at the 2000 census.

Noel is located at 36°32′36″N, 94°29′10″W (36.543361, -94.486238)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 km² (2.1 mi²). 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (2.91%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,480 people, 566 households, and 354 families residing in the city. The population density was 285.7/km² (739.7/mi²). There were 630 housing units at an average density of 121.6/km² (314.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 71.42% White, 0.34% African American, 2.16% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 22.97% from other races, and 2.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 36.49% of the population.

There were 566 households out of which 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.3% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.25.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 12.3% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 109.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,386, and the median income for a family was $32,159. Males had a median income of $18,819 versus $16,848 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,166. About 15.4% of families and 21.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 29.8% of those under age 18 and 13.8% of those age 65 or over.

Noel is one of a few "Christmas Cities" in America, along with Santa Claus, Indiana; North Pole, Alaska; and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; just to name some. Every year, thousands of Christmas cards are sent to Noel to be stamped with the magical NOEL stamp, which reads: NOEL, MISSOURI: THE CHRISTMAS CITY OF THE OZARKS.[citation needed]
