As it's a severe violation of WySiWyG, users of this template are expected to know WP:HIDE{{{1}}}– this sentence, for example, contains three links, transported to all readers, although most will see only two.

If the desired effect can be achieved with conditionals – in other words, by the Wiki server – don't use this template. It's for rare situations such as Special:Upload removed from the classic skin, where inserting a direct link on many pages would be redundant and annoying for most users, but is important for others.

The template is merely a shorthand for

<span style="display:none;">text</span>

While it's possible to {{subst:Nocss|wikitext}}, this might a bad idea; non-substitution means it's possible to track pages using hidden text.
