I am currently in the process of preparing for semi-wiki-retirement. After a year, and adding about 4000 items to my watchlist, I found that most of my time is now spent checking for vandalism, and seeing what other people have added to articles. But I think I am also just getting a little tired of the way things work here. I feel wikipedia has reached the point where they have enough quality articles that the manner by which people can contribute should be pared down. What do I mean? I mean the days of anonymous IPs and one-edit-no-legitimate-email-address-provided user IDs should be over. While someone with an anonymous IP might make a good contribution, more than often their contributions are garbage or down-right vandalism. If you want to provide productive contributions, I don't think it is out of line or too much to ask that you register and provide an email address. I guess the joy of contributing for me is flagging. I'm tired of people with bald-faced agendas on here using it as a soapbox or a place to attack whatever group they are opposed to. Or take your pick of retarded back-and-forth, never-to-be-solved conflicts/arguments: Greek/Turk, Turk/Armenian, Indian/Pakistani, Balkan shithole/Balkan shithole (yes, oooooh, I'm so American, don't understand the subtleties of the conflict; "fuck you" in advance), Eritrean/Ethiopian, Israeli/Arab, Christian/Muslim, Republican/Democrat, Kurds/everyone in a 500 mile radius, Chechen/Russian, East Timor/Indonesia, East Coast/West Coast, Army/Navy, racists/anyone not like them, Olbermann/O'Reilly. I am in the process of thinning my watchlist down to about 100 or so articles that I really care about, and will probably reduce my contributions to a minimum.

[edit] A Sort of Biography
Asami, the light of my life, with her over-sized flea trap
Twelve years in the U.S. Army. I was an infantryman, MP, and Transporter. I've been a private, an NCO, and an officer. Service in Somalia, Haiti, and Iraq. Called it quits after Iraq because of the incompetence with which it was carried out. Received my degree in Japanese History, and plan to pursue a Ph.D in that field. I live in Japan now through the JET Program, and hopefully will be able to stay here for a long time. I'm a classic American mutt, and can trace my ancestry to Armenia, Austria, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Russia, Scotland, Sweden, Turkey, the Ukraine, and Wales.

Having lived in Japan for 2 years now, I have formed some sharp opinions about my adopted home.
- Asami
- bentos
- 100 yen shops
- buzzers at restaurants to call the server
- izakayas
- relatively safe major cities
- history all over the place
- the people
- matcha ice cream
- no tipping \(^o^)/ (I'm a cheapskate)
[edit] Dislikes
- junken
- Japanophiles
- slow freeways
- karaoke
- the "wolf cut," a modified mullet haircut popular now
- that hideous man-woman over-the-hill jazz singing tarento whose ass all the younger tarentos kiss
- tarento
- Orange Range
- foreigners on TV who willingly play the gaijin stereotype, and...well, any foreigner on TV
- anime
- non-American foreigners who want to inform Americans in Japan how rude/boorish/stupid Americans are (never seeing the irony of it), or who are trolling for an argument over Iraq/U.S. foreign policy
- Japanese who want to tell you how wrong it was to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but haven't a f*cking clue what Unit 731 or the Rape of Nanking are, or don't believe that either ever existed.
- The Hiroshima Atomic Museum - one of the seminal events of the 20th century presented without context or analysis. And add to that the stupid young foreigners from countries that fought Japan in WWII who go there and "tsk, tsk" America and apologize for what their countries did in the war.
- Bobby Ologun - he doesn't just make foreigners of African descent look bad - he makes all of us look bad. Thanks, idiot.
- SMAP
- ATM's are not 24 hours here - more than once I have had to go without dinner because I forgot to get to the ATM in time.
- The "safety country" limits you most of the time to 80 kph on the highway, in the name of safety, but then fails to place guardrails next to steep drop offs into rice paddies along narrow roads, fails to put grates over gutters, or makes incredibly narrow streets two-way streets
- The way that Japanese celebrities are everywhere - for example, the dipshits from SMAP not only are on the radio constantly, but they have a TV show, they are in every other commercial, they are on the vending machine outside my apartment, they are in movies, they are on TV dramas (the most ridiculous of which I saw was one in which one of the SMAP guys was playing a character from 40-50 years ago, but still had his "wolf cut." It wasn't until I was 20 minutes into the show when I realized it was supposed to be 1965.) And I really don't think it's because they are super-talented.
[edit] Top 10 things anime watchin', magna readin', never-been-to-Japan Japanophiles don't know about Japan
- The J-pop you listen to is probably unknown here
- The Carpenters are very popular here
- The national dish is practically curry, not sushi
- Manga and anime obsessed people here are considered nerds too
- Japanese beer is ok at best
- Snoopy is more popular than Hello Kitty
- More people are probably into the TV series 24 than into Gundam
- Sazae-san or Doraemon are probably more popular than any single robot/SF anime
- Japanese high school students perform worse academically than American high school students. Until I see the methodology of studies that continually claim American students are the worst in just about everything, I refuse to believe those kind of rankings anymore.
- to be continued....

Jesse Macbeth - OMG, is this for real? Someone needs to post a picture of this clown wearing his "Ranger" uniform. Any recruit with a day in the army can tell this guy is a fraud

[edit] People who could never be considered chickenhawks
This is a fun section! I notice that, as originally constituted, the list consisted only of Republicans (don't even claim that Zell Miller is anything but a Republican these days!), including thet ol' Marine whut gave arms to an Axis of Evil regime and then lied about it to the American people. I'm sure that was an oversight, so I added a few others.
While we're at it, let's add a section to the NASA article, entitled "People who were never astronauts?" I nominate Julius Caesar, Pee Wee Herman, and John Wayne Bobbitt. And under Curling, we can add "People who never curled in the Olympics," including Tiger Woods, Idi Amin, and Michelle Kwan. Now if that ain't encyclopædic, I don't know what is.
