No Retreat, No Surrender 2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No Retreat, No Surrender 2 is an American-Chinese martial arts film directed in 1988 by Corey Yuen. It actually has no connection with the original No Retreat, No Surrender movie, also directed by Corey Yuen and starring Kurt McKinney and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

The stars of the film are :

Loren Avedon as the hero, Max Thayer as his buddy, Cynthia Rothrock as their female sidekick and Matthias Hues as the Soviet villain. Hwang Jang-Lee also appears as a villainous martial artist. Originally intended to be a direct sequel to the first movie, which launched the career of 'Jean Claude Van Damme' . But Van Damme pulled out feeling the film would not further his career and persuaded co-star Kurt McKinney to do the same. So neither actor showed up for the first day of shooting. The story and characters had to be changed with McKinney's character - Jason Stillwell (a Jeet Kune Do expert taught by the ghost of Bruce Lee) transformed into Scott Wylde, a Tae Kwon Do expert played by Loren Avedon. Matthias Hues was also cast as the new Russian character. Loren Avedon did not follow Jean Claude's example and stayed on after this film fulfilling his three-picture contract.

This movie is also known as: Karate Tiger 2 and Raging Thunder.
