"No Love" is an R&B song produced by Kay Gee from Naughty By Nature. It was intended for his girl group Tha' Rayne who recorded the song in 2002, as a duet, comprising Yummy Bingham and Quana.
The song was released as a warm-up single. The label (Arista wanted to create some buzz around Tha' Rayne while waiting for the release of their debut single Rock Wit Me. The 12 inch vinyl single hit the stores on July 9, 2002, including a remix version featuring Arista recording rapper Rob Jackson.
Tha Rayne was told the song would be on their debut album and they performed it during their Fall 2002 promo tour ; but Kay Gee sold the song to Epic recording artist Jhene in early 2003, and Arista agreed to take off the song from Tha Rayne's album, without telling it to the singers. At the same time, Tha' Rayne's "No Love" was featured on a promo compilation edited by the Sally Beauty shops.
Jhene recorded the song after the demo that KayGee made her listen. Demo that was in fact, the original record from Tha Rayne. Jhene probably thought it was just a demo and didn't know the song had already been released so she recorded it exactly the same way Tha' Rayne did.
Tha' Rayne's management discovered on the group's fansite that Jhene has had recorded "No L.O.V.E." and was releasing it as her first single. It was kind of a shock for the singers from Tha' Rayne who even thought to have recognized their vocals in the background of the record, but Kay Gee said it was not them.
