No. M-2 Line

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article describes a bus line of the Maryland Transit Administration. Information provided here is derived from old schedules and other archived resources.

The no. M-2 line is a bus line operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore, Maryland and its northwestern suburbs. It currently runs from the Old Court Metro Subway Station in Pikesville, Maryland to the Mondawmin Metro Subway Station in Northwest Baltimore along Old Court Road and Reisterstown Road. Service is provided about once every 12 minutes during rush hour, every 30 minutes midday, every 33 minutes in the evening after 8 PM, and every 24 minutes on weekends. The line serves the intermediate community of Park Heights and the Reisterstown Road Plaza.

The no. M-2 line started operating in 1984, then originating and terminating in the north near Reisterstown & Old Court Roads in Pikesville. At that time, the Old Court Metro Subway Station had not yet opened, and the segment of Old Court Road on which this line currently operates was served by the no. 77 line.

In 1987, when the Metro was extended to Owings Mills, the no. M-2 line was extended to the Old Court Metro Subway Station. Since then, the line's route has never changed. Only minor schedule changes have been made, and in 2001, Sunday service was added with a schedule identical to that on Saturday. Prior to the addition of Sunday service on this line, the no. 7 line provided service along Reisterstown Road on Sundays.

[edit] Closure of Old Court Metro Subway Station

In 1993, as a cost-saving measure, MTA started to close three of its Metro stations at 8 PM, and for trains running later than this time to bypass these stops. One of these stations was Old Court. This made travel more difficult for riders of the no. M-2 line accustomed to transferring in this area. MTA reopened all these stations in the evening in 2001.
