No. M-15 line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article describes a former bus line of the Maryland Transit Administration. Information provided here is derived from old schedules and other archived resources.
The no. M-15 line was a bus line operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland between 1987 and 1992. It operated on weekdays only, originating from a bus loop on Liberty Road in Randallstown, then running along Liberty and Old Court Roads to Pikesville. Rush hour service continued along Reisterstown and Painters Mill Roads to the Owings Mills Metro Subway Station, and midday and evening service looped in Pikesville via Reisterstown Road and Sudbrook Lane. In addition, selected rush hour trips continued to Business Center at Owings Mills along Crondall Lane. The line operated every 30 minutes during rush hour, and every 50 minutes midday and evenings.
[edit] Elimination
In 1992, MTA announced the elimination of the no. M-15 line from service. The line had low ridership, and service on virtually all parts of the route were available on other lines.
- Along Liberty Road, service was provided by the Mo. M-8 Line, which operated to the Rogers Avenue Metro Subway Station.
- Along Old Court Road between Liberty Road and the Metro Station, service is provided by the No. 77 Line.
- Along Old Court Road between the Metro Station and Reisterstown Road, service is provided by the No. M-2 Line.
- Along Reisterstown Road, service is provided by the No. M-9 Line.
- Selected trips on the No. M-9 Line were extended to the Business Center At Owings Mills to replace this branch of the no. M-15 line. This service is currently provided by the No. M-17 Line.
- In addition, the no. 130 express line provided one daily trip in each direction that followed the identical route between Randallstown and Pikesville. These trips were used heavily by riders seeking the same service until the line's elimination in 1996.
After the no. 130 line was discontinued, there was no single-seat service anything close to that provided by the no. M-15. This required riders traveling between Randallstown and Pikesville or Owings Mills to take much longer bus rides involving multiple tranfers.
In 2005, MTA proposed to extend the no. M-8 line to Owings Mills, providing more direct service between Randallstown and Owings Mills. But this plan was heavily fought by those residing in the communities the proposed route would pass through.
The No. M-8 Line, however, was rerouted to the Milford Mill Metro Subway Station, shortening the amount of time it would take to travel between Randallstown and Pikesville or Owings Mills.
In 2007, it is proposed that the no. M-8 line will be combined with the No. M-3 Line, once again providing single-seat service between Randallstown and Pikesville. Riders would be able to transfer to the nos. M-2 or M-9 lines in Pikesville and obtain service to points elsewhere along Reisterstown Road in as few as two buses.
