1AOSS was formed from the merger of 1ATS and 1CCS on January 1, 2007.
The No. 1 Air Terminal Squadron Head Quarters is based at RAAF Base Richmond. The squadron has detachments at each of the major RAAF Bases and supports the Air Lift Group assets and receives, on average, over 500,000 lb. of cargo per year, sending out 600,000 lb. on average in the same time frame.
Number 1 Combat Communications Squadron (1CCS) was formerly known as Air Transportable Telecommunications Unit (ATTU). It is a unit of the Royal Australian Air Force.
ATTU was formed at RAAF Base Richmond on 20 September 1965 and subsequently was renamed Number 1 Combat Communications Squadron on 1 July 1999.
Since the formation of ATTU in 1965, the unit has participated in over one thousand exercises and operations providing temporary and tactical communications electronics facilities to support deployed air operations both within Australia and abroad.
