No. 12 Line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article describes a bus line of the Maryland Transit Administration. Information provided here is derived from old schedules and other archived resources.
The no. 12 line is a bus line operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. It currently runs from the Lutherville Light Rail Stop to the Stella Maris health care complex in Timonium, Maryland. Service is provided seven days a week on a very limited basis to meet the employment needs of Stella Maris.
The no. 12 line started operating in October 2005 as a replacement to a special branch of the no. 8 line that served the Stella Maris complex. Earlier that year, MTA had proposed total elimination of bus service to the complex. Opposition to this change resulted in the creation of a new line to serve the employer's needs.
The no. 12 line has had its route changed on two occasions as a result of community complaints. Its first route operated via Ridgely Road to Dulaney Valley Road. In February 2006, it was changed to operate via Cranbrook Road along a route similar to the no. 9 Line in that area. Two weeks later, the route was changed again to its current route, which is via York Road, Fairmount Avenue, and Dulaney Valley Road.
[edit] Previous no. 12 lines
Prior to the existence of the current no. 12 line, MTA operated other lines known as the no. 12.
- The most recent was a line that ran from the North Linthicum Light Rail Stop to Parkway Center in Anne Arundel County from 1993 to 1996. This line had very low ridership, and as a result, was consolidated with the No. 17 Line.
- Between 1972 and 1991, a series of express buses were indentified as no. 12. These included one that operated from the Westview area of Catonsville, which is now known as the No. 150 Line, and one from Essex to downtown, which is currently identified as no. 160.
- From 1948 to 1959, a streetcar along the Wilkens Avenue corridor that operated from Halethorpe to downtown was called no. 12. This service is currently provided by the No. 35 Line.
- From 1893 to 1938, a streetcar that operated from John Street (currently Reservoir Hill) with branches to Washington Boulevard and Westport was identified as no. 12. Service is currently provided on or near portions of its route by bus line nos. 5, 11, and 91, and the Light Rail.
