[edit] Welcome

Hello, No1lakersfan, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type helpme on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!Kukini 15:08, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Of course, I will be glad to help you in any way I can. I am off-line at home until after May 3, and am using the library to check email, etc. and only have brief access. If I don't remember to contact you by then, would you be kind enough to remind me please? I am flattered that you ask. Thanks, Mark Vaoverland 19:31, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Virginia Routes

Hey there. We actually have a routebox for Virginia highways. You can check it out on Virginia State Highway 28. Any suggestions for it are appreciated.

I'm glad to see someone else is interested in the Wikiproject. Finally. You just need to sign up on the Proposed Wikiproject page, and then on my temporary project page. The proposal page is Wikipedia:Wikiproject/List of proposed projects#Virginia Highways, then follow the link to my temp page. There are all the formatting guidelines and such. If we can get one more person interested, I'll actually officially start the wikiproject and it will have its own page. Actually, I see you signed up on the proposal page. So yeah, but the link User:MPD01605/Virginia Highway WikiProject is where all the naming conventions and rules are. Again, feel free to comment on that page and let me know if you think anything should be changed. Thanks for your interest!

P.S. We don't have many shields. I can make some, but they're not great. We have one guy, User:atanamir, creating some SVG images, and they're in use on Virginia Highway 7 and 28 right now. Um...yeah so if you know how to make SVG shields and want to contact him to get the info, that's cool. Anything else, let me know. Thanks again! --MPD01605 02:21, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

That works for me. I just make PNG files for the time being. We have road sign templates and already-made shields at commons:Category:Virginia_road_signs. Feel free to make better ones. All our images are stored there. Cool man, have a good one. --MPD01605 13:53, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
We're up and running at Wikipedia:WikiProject Virginia Highways. --MPD01605 01:28, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PNG->SVG

Because of the nature of SVG files, it's not possible to convert SVGs to PNGs without re-making them. However, I have templates for the Virginia shields; which ones would you like to be done? I can whip them up pretty fast in SVG format. atanamir 23:02, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Newport News

I'm living between Newport News and college in Richmond. In what manner should we collaborate? --StevenL 19:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Sure whatever works --StevenL 23:14, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hwy 199 et al.

Various roads around Richmond- routes 76, 895, and 199, etc- are listed as Route x (Virginia). I've spoken with User:Rschen7754 about it. Right now there is a big thing going on about the NC's, and pretty much his response was what you see in the post on my talk page 2 above yours. I'm waiting it out right now, and I recommend waiting (maybe I should put that on the Project page). Hopefully things will turn out in our favour. Out of curiosity, which do you prefer?

Oh, and the answer to your question would be to move the Route 199 (Virginia) page to the Virginia State Highway 199 page. I think. I'll check up on that if that's what we'll be doing as per the discussion. I'll let you know soon. --MPD01605 (T / C) 00:44, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] suggestion

I find the lettering in your talk box to have poor contrast with the background color. Maybe a minor change would improve readability. Glad to see you on board as a Wikipedian.

Thought you might be interested to know that a reporter and photographer from Newport News Daily Press came to our home yesterday afternoon, and interviewed me, and photographed me and Mom for a story on Wikipedia and my work.

I was surprised to discover that, out of 13,000 regular editors (contributors) to WP worldwide, I am ranked 149 based upon contributions. The reporter considers me something of a historian on local history and transportation subjects. I explained off the record that my bus company situation is still in litigation, and I didn't want it included in story.

Story set to run Monday, May 22 in Spotlight section. Keep your fingers crossed story is complimentary and reasonably accurate.

[edit] talk box, article of interest

The talk box is less colorful, but more functional IMHO. Here are a couple of articles you may enjoy. Feel free to add to them if you should learn more.

[edit] Virginia highway articles

Glad to help in any way possible. You may already know, or enjoy knowing that Arlington and Henrico Counties are the only two counties for which VDOT doesn't do the secondary roads. Instead, they receive special funding from the General Assembly. I understand that this was due to the fact that they already had good county highway departments when the state agency which preceded VDOT took over these responsibilities in all the other counties. The Director of Planning for Henrico was a good friend about 20 years ago and explained what a great advantage this was when handling development issues. You need only compare Henrico and Chesterfield outside Richmond to see her point. Cities already have this power, one big advantage for Hampton Roads communities.

If you haven't already checked it out, I would bet your would enjoy Scott Kozel's expansive Roads To The Future website. http://www.roadstothefuture.com/

Thanks for the kind words. I think that the reporter and photographer both did a nice job. Vaoverland 21:07, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VA Highways NC's

I'm talking to an admin more familiar with the current status of the situation. Right now, refer him to our project page, and point out what our Naming Conventions are right now. So far, it looks to be that our NCs will remain the same. If he's creating new highway pages, at the very least make sure the format is in line with ours. I'll get back to you as soon as I hear from the admin. Thanks, --MPD01605 (T / C) 21:17, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, use . Something like commons:Image:{Image name} won't work, files from the commons work just like files on Wikipedia, no prefix is needed. I'm going to be out for a while, but if it still doesn't work, let me know the file name and I'll try it too. --MPD01605 (T / C) 21:49, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
The naming convention for state highways is still in arbitration at Arbcom. For now, I would use "Virginia State Highway XX", since that is what is on List of Virginia numbered highways. --Northenglish 23:45, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Virginia State Highways

Thanks, I will do that. Mark Vaoverland 21:39, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Virginia State Highway articles

I will try to follow the format set forth. I am weak on use of templates. One thing you may be able to clarify for me. Which is correct: Virginia State Highway 171 or Route 171 (Virginia)?

I had orginally been using the first format and I believe it was User: SPUI who advised me that the second was the correct format. Do you know which is correct? Also, is there any protocol for named roads ie Mercury Boulevard.

Thanks, Mark Vaoverland 21:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Va-143

I assume you realize that template got screwy. I have trouble with them, and can't be much help. BTW, I like the format Virginia State Highway XXX better. Mark Vaoverland 22:09, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recent work

I like your route boxes are you modify some of the Virginia State Highway articles. I noticed that occasionally you list intersecting roads as "Route", rather than "Highway", ie Virginia State Route 171 in your VA-134 article. I have changed a few of these so the links in some cases will change from red to blue. I can see your work imoproving as you go, Stay with it guy. Its great to have someone else working on this type of article for routes in SE VA. Let me know if I can help you. I wrote new articles today on Mercury Boulevard, Virginia State Highway 171, and Deep Creek, Virginia. Keep up your good work!! Mark Vaoverland 01:52, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your RfA

Hi, I noticed you are trying to nominate yourself for adminship. New nominations should be placed at the top though, so you might want to move it! Furthermore, there's a quite useful Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship that you might want to read first. At the moment, it seems like you don't have the amount of experience (in time and amount of edits) yet that is expected from future admins, so it might be best to retract it and try again in a few months, while editing and having fun in the mean time! Kind regards, --JoanneB 14:13, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Indeed; I have removed your request for adminship from the request for adminship page until you correct your nomination. As JoanneB stated, please take a look at the guide to requests for adminship for instructions on how to create your request for adminship correctly. joturner 14:49, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] thanks for the compliment on the VHSL

Thanks for the compliment. The VHSL project is not only my doing, but also among several others who are doing this voluntarily. I actually started doing this because I am a huge football fan from the NFL and college down to high school (I graduated from Stone Bridge High School in Loudoun County) and I graduated from William and Mary which is in your neck of the woods too. Perhaps you heard of Stone Bridge HS because they lost to Hampton in the finals, and the Daily Press had articles on the Crabbers for like a week after their win.

Though I started many of the pages on VHSL (Shawn Pickrell has started many of the pages on A and AA districts), I certainly don't know very much about most of the regions and districts, with the exception of those in Northern Virginia, like AA Region II, the AAA Northern Region, and the AAA Northwestern Region. If you know anything more about the Eastern Region's districts, please go ahead and put that on their respective pages, like the fact that AI, and the Vicks played in PD schools, or the fact that Landstown has several standouts on D-I teams (Beach District). If you also know more about the AA Bay Rivers District besides that they are in the Historic Triangle, that would be great too, since they are also in your area too.

Nevertheless, I too have learned a lot about the districts in the VHSL while doing this. I hope it will be completely done in about a couple of weeks or so. Thanks again.

Alternatively, you can join the Wikipedia Bootcamp IRC channel to get real-time help. (Use the web-based client to get instant access.) --Pilot|guy 22:27, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

I saw your question at Haines City, Florida. The problem was with the server, it's fixed now.--Commander Keane 22:35, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
You didn't do anything wrong, the sever just had an error with the image. To fix it I purged the image (by typing in this url). It would have fixed itself eventually anyway.
Of course remember to only use helpme on your own talk page :-)--Commander Keane 22:40, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] City infobox template

I saw that you were trying to change something with the template and you had actually broken it, since it was adding '}}' to every city article. But it looks like you've fixed it now. Dr. Cash 01:58, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

What he said. For a moment there I thought it was working on MSIE but not in Firefox, but it's fine now. --Faustus37 02:04, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Strike that. The web site part is broken now. --Faustus37 02:07, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Indeed it does work now. Thanks. --Faustus37 02:12, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Actually, it's broken for several of the articles. Most have http:// included as part of the website= definition. So the link ends up being http://http://www.... Also, you can use Template:Infobox_City/Test to test new changes before promoting them to the main template. --harpchad 02:26, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I'd also like to shrink the default map size. 250px is obnoxiously large. See Meridian, Idaho for an example. I tried adjusting it to 150px directly in the Boise, Idaho but the map won't generate (doing that works in Twin Falls, Idaho though). --Faustus37 02:34, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help with box

I just finished an article for a red link, U.S. Route 50 in Virginia. If you could help with one of your route boxes (or whatever we call them), it would enhance the article. Also, any other attention you may feel it needs would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark Vaoverland 08:46, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Challange to Adams Glass Article

Hello, Thank you for your interest in "Adams Glass".

I researched this document on line, and by actual visits to several libraries and archives in Pittsburgh. I also visited the cemetery where John Adams buried.

Some of my sources for this article are:

- Census Records

- Pennsylvania Historical Review, 1886

- “Pittsburgh Kerosene -1860-1900”, by Catherine M. V. Thuro, as published in “The Glass Club Bulletin”

- Remembering the Past: History of the Merging Congregations and Their Buildings First United Methodist Church (Pittsburgh, Pa) Page 26, (on line)

- Adams Glass & Company Catalog

- Advertisements for Adams Glass from old Pittsburgh newspapers.

- Allegheny County's Hundred Years, 1888, by George H. Thurston

If you wish to see the source for any particular of the article, I can email a JPEG image of the page(s) where I found the information.

I am new to Wikipidia, and don't 'know the ropes' as to how to provide proper Wikification. Any advice on what is needed to satisfy the challange to this article would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I will be reading up on the Wikipidia instruction manual.

I am aware that a better title for my article would be: John Adams, Glass Manufacturer (1823 - 1888), instead of Adams Glass. Is there a way to edit the title? Or should I scrap the entire article and re-submit it under the better title?

Thank you, KierH

Hi, Thanks for the info - the only reason I want to extend the border is becasue the map is on a white background which a) looks a bit strange against the grey background of the template box b) give the map a little more definition. [edit] Hampyton Roads Region

A worthy project! However, defining same can get tricky, as some outlying areas want in. However, I recommend you follow the current VA Beach-Norfolk MSA definitions for inclusion, which will include 1 NC county, as well as Gloucester and Mathews on the Middle Peninsula. I think I have kept up with this in the current Hampton Roads article. Vaoverland 02:40, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hampton Roads

Nice Work, clean and concise. Note that our Mathews County has only one "t". That is a very common error. I have noticed that some contributors to WP would like to include Southampton County and the City of Franklin in the definition, but so far, I don't think they are included in the MSA. [edit] Comments

I think you are well on the way to being a respected and valued member of the WP community. Your work and PR with others is of high quality, and I perceive you are enjoying yourself. This is the right path we talked about. I have been going through a bit of a lull here, with our car still gone, sorta cabin fever, and when I can get my head straight, WP is great escape. I find it almost impossible to write about subject that don't interest me.

I am awarding you a BARNSTAR for work on Virginia Highways Projects. Congrats.

Here are some thoughts and projects for you to ponder:

1. Do you ever take photos? Getting usable photos into WP seems to be aproblem due to copyrights, etc.

2. Do you have any idea how Bowers Hill got named? I have tracked it back to early 19th century as a place name, but no one seems to know the source.

3. I think info on Poquoson and Phoebus are both rather light. There are also the individual Newport News Public Schools and the local community colleges, all showing red.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

[edit] BARNSTAR

You now have your first Barnstar. Feel free to move it around your user page wherever you feel it fits best. Having barnstars under your belt will help with the project we discussed. BTW, I made Life Scout and in 1965 was a recipient of God and County Award, one of the hardest I ever earned, which I think no longer exists. An inability to dive (despite great efforts by me and many who tried to help) cost me my Eagle as I could't complete lifesaving merit badge without it. I had met the other equirements and did earn the Mile Swim in 1964. Watch out for bats in your new barn!! Vaoverland 16:33, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cat needed backlog

Your work is recognized, and greatly appreciated. As for trouble with speedy tags, don't worry about it; do try to match your interpretation of the CSDs to other people, but don't be too concerned if your view is different for a while - you'll get used to it. And if something gets switched from speedy to PROD or AfD - so what? It'll still get handled. JesseW, the juggling janitor 04:31, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Don Tate

Please refrain from adding a speedy deletion tag to Don Tate. The article is currently undergoing discussion on AfD, which has 2 days yet to finish discussions. A consensus has not necessarily been reached yet, so CSD G6 does not apply yet. It asserts notability, so no other CSD criterium that I see applies here. Mo0[talk] 04:57, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] many CSD tags

Lookit, I removed no fewer than four of your improvidently placed, poorly researched CSD tags, including one you replaced after I removed one previouly, also from you. • (regarding Party Music, Since I Left You). What exactly are you fixing? The redirects work as weel as any other redirect and they provide information that I find to be useful to people who might stumble across these redirects in the future. What gives?--Hraefen Talk 21:50, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
  • The link that is in the hidden content is bad, therefore the redirect is showing up as being broken. Something should be done to keep the link from causing the redirect from being shown as broken, if the information in the page is useful. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 22:41, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
  • OK, now the link is no longer in the template I use. In the future, please alert the person who is doing such things so that they can stop and so that they aren't wondering why you're reverting their work. Thanks.--Hraefen Talk 22:47, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article on the rock band Pure Rubbish

Hi. I addes sources to the Pure Rubbish page. Let me know if I documented the sources the right way. I believe this article meets the WP:Band criteria. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to add to validate the Pure Rubbish article. Thanks for your help! [edit] Help with signing unsigned comments

How would I sign a message that I forgot to sign, and how would I mark a message that was left on my talk page that was unsigned?

Good question. :) You can use the unsigned template -- Luna Santin, for example. As for signing your own posts, you can either write a note "Oops, forgot to sign" with the usual four tildes, or just go back and add them in -- never hurts to explain what you're doing, in the edit summary, but in general, if you do it quickly, people probably won't question you. Hope that helps! Luna Santin 01:41, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pure Rubbish

Hi! Thanks for the help! I listed the sources at the bottom of the Pure Rubbish article but at the top of page it still says "this article needs sources, references". Who do I contact to let them know the sources are listed so they can remove that heading? Also, how do I upload the bands' images and other necessary info such as years active, genre, members, etc? I still can't seem to upload my images and place them in the article?? Can you help? Thanks again!! --JT TRASH 01:41, 17 August 2006 (UTC)JT TRASH

I do own the Pure Rubbish images and wish to release them into fee domain.

[edit] Virginia state highways

I have disgussed my reasons for both of those on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Virginia Highways. Infobox road is just as customized but also more powerful, and State Route is the style commonly used, in accordance with Wikipedia:Use common names. Are you aware of the Pipe trick, making parentheses actually less cumbersome, since you can type State Route 337 (Virginia) to form State Route 337? Thanks for asking me, and I hope you understand my reasons. --NE2 07:22, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] your chinese astrological sign

7 november 1988,

your chinese sign is dragon

The Dragon is one of the most powerful and lucky Signs of the Chinese Zodiac. Its warm heart makes the Dragon's brash, fiery energy far more palatable. This is a giving, intelligent and tenacious Sign that knows exactly what it wants and is determined to get it. Dragons possess a certain natural, charming charisma that ensures they can always influence their peers and often find themselves the center of attention in social situations. This Sign is truly blessed, too; Dragons are considered to be very lucky in love! The Dragon's friends are always keen to hear what this firebrand has to say and when it comes to dispensing advice, the Dragon has the floor.

Its ego can get in the Dragon's way, but even so, this larger-than-life creature has a knack for initiating projects and keeping the troops motivated. According to Dragons, it's their natural born right to lead the way -- because who else could do it so surely and so well? As lucky as they are, Dragons have a good chance of achieving considerable material wealth during their lifetimes, although it isn't mere money that's this Sign's main motivation. Power is what the Dragon wants and truly believes it deserves. Dragons are quite the opportunists, forever searching for ways in which to consolidate their considerable power. Contrary to all this strength and fire, a weakened Dragon is a sad sack, a creature that refuses to take defeat with even a modicum of grace.

The role of leader is the only one the Dragon wants, the better from which to give orders and be king of the hill. They make solid leaders, too, knowing instinctively what needs to be done to stay on top. Crossing the Dragon is never a good idea -- this beast can singe! A valuable life lesson for this clever creature would be to absorb the principles of flexibility, compassion and tolerance. Being high and mighty can serve to inspire others, but it also keeps Dragons from living their lives to the fullest. If Dragons can learn to balance their quest for success with an appreciation for the little things, their life will be more than worthwhile.

The most compatible match for a Dragon is the Monkey or the Rat.

well mine was goat.

numerology

you have a fiercely independent, intellectual and analytical personality. charming and artistic, you appretiate the finer things in life. lucky colours:- green white yellow. lucky gems:- cat's eye, pearl

[edit] I need help with a template in my user subpage

I recently created a template in my user subpages: User:No1lakersfan/Template:VA route infobox and I would like to know what I have to do in order to test it out. Could somebody experienced in this kind of wiki formatting help me with this? I want to make sure it works before I make it public. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 14:18, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Normally, it's pretty easy. The problem here is that your user name has a "|" character in it, which is syntactic in WP markup. So when you put , it treats "akersfan/VA route infobox" as an argument to the template "User:No1". So maybe put it somewhere else? Waitak 14:31, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help with infobox formatting

I have created a new template, which is being tested at User:No1lakersfan/Template:VA route infobox. However, I would like to know what I need to do in order to get the text that appears under the infobox to begin beside the infobox. Thanks for your help again. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 14:47, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see. You want the infobox to float to be on the right of the screen, and the text to flow around it? Waitak 15:05, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, the VA route infobox template that you're calling already does that (with a "float" in the style declaration). It ought to just work... Waitak 15:09, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Glad you were able to sort it out! :-) Waitak 15:45, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox

Is there something specific you want to do that's not supported by infobox road with state=VA? I may be able to help you add it to infobox road. --NE2 15:33, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh, that's easy (as is showing the shield up top). I used Image:no image.svg as a temporary solution, as no one had created a set of shields yet. All you need to change is Template:Infobox road/VA/shield, Template:Infobox road/VA dumb hack (replace this with {arg}, or keep the secondary part if secondary shields haven't been made yet), and Template:Infobox road/VA shield. See Template:Infobox road/GA/shield and Template:Infobox road/GA shield for the style to use. --NE2 16:08, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Virginia State Highways

I don't understand the purpose of Template:Virginia State Highways. It looks too big to place on every article. Is your plan to use it only on List of Virginia numbered highways? --NE2 20:37, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I still don't think it's a good idea. It seems more useful to clean up the list in List of Virginia numbered highways, so the reader can click there from the infobox and then easily select the route. --NE2 00:03, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] hi

hey willy! did you find your chinese astrological sign fine. well i added some content to the article sun.

it wasn't copyright.

it wasn't nonsence.

I've had some recent success with SVG. I may give it a try. --NE2 16:11, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox

Why did you change Template:Infobox road/VA shield to 100 pixels? It's perfectly legible at 70 pixels. --NE2 16:02, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I copied the 70px from other states, but it does seem sufficient for showing the shield. --NE2 16:41, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

It's a rather complicated process. I've been systematically uploading them. I think I just uploaded all two-digit numbers. If you have a specific request, you can ask me. --NE2 17:42, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I have all from 100 to 199 ready to upload; you should probably start after that. Are you sure that the text placement is exactly the same? The 143 shield you made had the text a bit smaller. --NE2 20:27, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

It's still slightly different:

Image:Virginia 105 temporary.svg

If you don't mind, I can have them all up soon. --NE2 05:02, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

You can use Wikipedia:WikiProject Virginia Highways/Completion list to check on the progress of shields. --NE2 18:07, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I've uploaded all numbers except those that have only been used for facility routes. Once my Commons account stops being "too new", I will replace the few older ones that are made in a different style. But for now, all but 307 and 267 have the correct number. --NE2 23:48, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] hi!

okay! i have got it why the content was removed. well it was due to the calculation mistakes.

[edit] Thanks for helping out

I want to thank you for deleting the images that I tagged for speedy deletion since they are duplicates of images in Commoms. I like to keep the site tidy and organized, and I felt thos eimages were redundant and needed to be cleaned out of the site. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 15:24, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

No problem! In general, you don't need to mark images as speedys if they are on commons with the same name. Just tag them with NCT or NowCommonsThis, and an admin will eventually get to them (the backlog is absolutely humongous, but each image will be deleted eventually :-) —Mets501 (talk) 15:37, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
The main reason why I tagged them for speedy was because the duplicate images on commons are tagged for deletion since they are duplicates too. I wanted to make sure that they were deleted before the ones on commons were, so that the request was legitimate. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 15:41, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Ahh, OK, no problem. —Mets501 (talk) 23:55, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks! That was a quick response to my "Cambok" question!

Thank you for helping me out. I have read all the info for deletion, hoax tagging, etc., but I was still a bit confused. One more question though: if there is another, totally different game/sport that goes by the same name, does the whole article (including the title) still get deleted and the "real" cambok just has to wait until someone writes a cambok article, or will a stub be left and just the text removed? Thanks again for your help. Mutableye 01:54, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

It looks like my hunch was correct and this article will be deleted. Thanks again for getting the ball rolling. This was my first "major" involvement with an article, every previous edit I have made has been very minor (spelling, punctuation, etc.) so I really appreciate your attention in this matter. Hopefully I will find it easier to "be bold" in the future! Mutableye 01:43, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Sorry to butt in, but here is what I have picked up. The poll was to gather the opinions of editors. The closure and move to admin discussion is to correlate the community opinion with those wearing the admin hat when you make your vote; as we're supposed to be the "overseers" of policy and as such there is a phase 2 for voting. Thank you very much for your prompt response to my request. My userpage is now just slightly off display limits. If you could reduce it just a little bit more, it would be perfect. If not, that's okay (the entire text is now within display limits, just a bit of layout goes overboard). Also, if it's not too troublesome for you, could you please correct my userbox page too? Once again, thank you. --Húsönd 16:07, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I Could Use Some Advice (Again)

I could use some advice (again), if you don't mind. I would like to re-organize an article, but a particular user seems to be rather "possessive" about this article/topic. I have NO INTEREST in starting an "edit war"/personal back-and-forth crap, I just want to improve the article, but my (possibly clumsily-worded?) suggestions on the talk page seemed to be shot down pretty quickly.... I have no idea how to proceed, and the "possessive" user is an admin, so I feel kind of "inhibited". Do I keep using the discussion page until one of us gives in? Should I use my user page to re-do the article the way I think it should be done and invite the user to view it and comment? Should I just edit the article and see if it gets reverted? Should I take my issues to the user's talk page, rather than the more "public" discussion page for the article? As I stated before, I DO NOT want to cause conflict or make enemies of any Wikipedia editor. Please advise. Mutableye 03:59, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I'm still not exactly sure about how to proceed, but at least now I have some input. I probably wouldn't even bother with/worry about it much, but it is one of my (few!) areas of expertise, so I suppose I am a little "emotionally invested" in the outcome. By the way, I haven't mentioned the name of the article/user because I wanted a neutral response to the general situation, but if you think it would help, I can give it to you (otherwise, I'll just work it out by myself like a big girl!). Hi willy,

This is Sushant. Well don't you find it inconvinient to read the new message on your talkpage. Why don't you start up with a new discussion and archive this page. Well I am sorry if you don't like my suggestion.

[edit] Archiving Talk pages

Willy: My method may not be the best, or the recommended way (which I could not find under help) but it is easy and preserves the history.

  • 1. I change the name of my talk page to an appropriate archive name:

(ie Change name User_Talk:Vaoverland to User_Talk:Vaoverland/archive1)

  • 2. I create a new page User_Talk:Vaoverland
  • 3. I copy or cut from the new archive page whatever portion I want to still be on my new talk page. I add a link to my archive page(s) before the new messages begin. (look at my talk page for an example)
  • 4. I delete from the archive page anything that shouldn't be there, such as the invitation to leave new messages, add an appropriate title at the top (such as dates covered) and my user name and the fact it is an archive of messages, requesting that no one make changes.
  • 5. I haven't followed all of these procedures as well as I should, and I also am overdue to make another archive page.
  • 6. If you do not do this or something similar, when your talk page gets too full, you will unexpectedly start getting strange errors. I found that out the hard way.
  • 7. Having reminded me, I will go ahead and archive my current Talk Page.
  • 8. One last thought: Sometimes I leave a few recent messages on the new talk page if there is an issue or dialog in process at the time of archive. I break it at a logical point, not necessarily just by date.

Let me know if you have trouble, or figure out an easier way. <gr> P.S. I'd love to see your verbal SAT score. Mark Vaoverland 09:26, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

    • I just did my fifth archive page, following the preceeding procedure. A couple of comments about my directions. The way to change your current talk page to your archive1 is to use the MOVE command. This automatically creates a redirect, which you will see. Go to that redirect page, and change it to the content you want on your new talk page. I can do it quicker and more accurately than I can explain, so if you wish, I would be glad to do it for you. It took me all of 10 minutes to do mine. Yours, Mark Vaoverland 09:41, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
