[edit] Welcome
Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. I see you're already off to a start doing brass band stuff, which something we're got horribly thin coverage off, and something I've failed to get a colliery-band-playing friend of mine to fix. I do hope you stay around and make things a bit more substancial.
You might find these links helpful in editing pages or creating new ones: How to edit a page, Tutorial, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should probably read our policies at some point too.
But don't feel you have to read every policy document before you do anything. Dive in, be bold in editing, and if you do anything wrong, someone will be quick to correct it and let you know (hopefully, politely!)
Here are some tasks you can do:
- Wikify: Graduand, Hard Drive Courage, Elegant Machinery, Eileen Schaer, Gary Walters, History of Hvar Island, Backlog...
- Cleanup: Teacher in role, Fan Changjiang, The Musical Racket, Imperial Way Faction, German units of measurement, Backlog...
- Stubs: Pedagogy, Kevin J. Anderson, Baseball Writers Association of America, Multinational corporation, Buda, Cargo, More...
- Verify: The 7th Guest Part III: The Collector, Aerosmith's outtakes, Algophobia, AIML, Al Tomaini, A&F Quarterly, Backlog...
- Update: All-Round Athletics, All-Ukrainian Union Fatherland, Christopher Stokes, Blankenburg am Harz, 102P/Shoemaker, More...
- Neutrality: Afro-Asian, Air Defense Identification Zone, Anker Boye, Alex Munter, Ammadam, Alan Goodman, Alorica, Backlog...
- Copyedit: Menstrual cup, Kateřina Jacques, Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., Jain Irrigation Systems, Galileo's Cannonball, More...
- Merge: Lymphopenia, Dragonlance timeline, Hollyphant, King Philip Math League, Variety (plant), Epigenetic robotics, Backlog...
- Style: Agape College, ADT Security Services, Active 20-30, Action Kid (comic), Agumbe, A.T. Kearney, A13 road, More...
- Expand: Architecture of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Barry Lee Bush, Engaged and Underage, Silent Hill 3, E-mail, More...
- Requests: IGF type 2 receptor, Fifty-third Texas Legislature, D and I Railroad, Jus inter gentes, Colin Monk, Fiat 1T, More...
- Mediation Cabal: Robert Gray, anarchy battlefield, Almeda University, Antioxidant, Hero, The Freechild Project, More...
-
Cleanup backlogs - Review recent overhauls - Active fixup projects - Maintenance projects - Maintenance COTW: be merged
If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!
You may have already noticed that you can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too, as I've done below. This is mostly useful, and is considered good wikiquette, on talk pages. But be aware that the actual wikipedia articles should never be signed - they belong to the community, rather than the individual who created them.
Again, welcome! -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 15:12, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- That didn't take you long to notice! For the moment I've just tweaked a couple of minor things and spolling mistooks, until I get used to it/into the swing of things. -Nigel

- I made some trivial edit to brass band a while ago, and (like almost everyone) I have the Add pages you edit to your watchlist option in my preferences set, so I see a list of changes made recently to things I might (theoretically) care about. Oh, I should mention: the usual convention (although by no means mandatory) is to keep a given conversation (like this one) on one page (I can see updates because this page is on my watchlist!). And yeah, everyone starts just by fixing a typo or adding a one-line addition. It's quitting that's the hard thing to do :) -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 15:36, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Sorry - I just couldn't see a "reply" button and not realising that you'd see anything I typed here coupled with the comment to ask you on your User page led me to think that was the thing to do. I hope this is better. Now let me try signing this message and seeing what happens... NigelHorne
- It's not a problem. wiki makes editing articles easy, but it's a third-rate chat system, however we structure things. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 15:56, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
