NJ Y Camps

A not-for-profit, community service summer camp, established in 1919 as the New Jersey Federation of YMHAs & YWHAs. Originally the Felix Fuld Camp, the name was changed to the New Jersey Y Camps in the 1940's. Since then, the organization has developed seven Jewish Community Center and American Camp Association approved summer camps serving various populations in North Eastern Pennsylvania. There are 3 grade based camps (Camp Nah-Jee-Wah, Cedar Lake Camp and Teen Age Camp), a short term camp (Camp MountainTop), senior adult vacation center (Kislak), a special needs camp (Round Lake Camp) and a modern orthodox camp (Camp Nesher).
There have only been 5 Executive Directors in the organizations 86+ year existence. 2006 average length of employment by the individual camp directors is 17 years.
The NJ Y Camps were at the forefront of the technology revolution, becoming the first camp to put up daily pictures of children online in 1998, which has since spawned an entire industry of companies offering this service to other camps. Additionally, the Y Camps has developed unique Jewish Specialty Camps, partnering with relevant names in the sports, arts and science world, including Herb Brown, Lenny Krayzelburg, Ron Blomberg, the 92nd Street Y, ErGo Media, the Israel Tennis Centers, Maccabi Great Britain (see Maccabi Tel Aviv FC) and The Planetary Society.
This is a storied camp with a long history and tens of thousands of Jewish children having run through its doors.
