NIVO

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NIVO, short for Night Invisible Varnish Orfordness, was a green overall finish applied to British night bombers in the interwar period (1918-1939).

The finish was devised as a low-visibility colouring for the Royal Air Force's heavy night bomber force and was applied to Vickers Virginias, Handley Page Hyderabads & Hinaidis, Handley Page Heyfords and Fairey Hendons.

NIVO was obsolescent by the late 1930s, and had been discontinued by the time of the arrival of the then-new Wellingtons, Hampdens and Whitleys.
