[edit] Market and sales
The Titan was not intended to challenge the big 3 "Detroit Trucks" in quality or sales quantity. The Titan has an annual production capacity of 90,000 units while Ford alone sells 900,000 units in one year. To Nissan, the Titan completes their vehicle lineup and gives them a truck to offer as competition for customers looking for an in-between alternative to the Ford Ranger/F-150, Chevrolet S-10/1500 Silverado, GMC Sonoma/1500 Sierra, Dodge Dakota/1500 Ram. The Titan is an equal alternative to the Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Tacoma, and Mitsubishi Raider due to payload and towing capacities.
During the first full year of production (December 2003 to December 2004), 85,920 Titans were sold. 86,945 Titans were sold in 2005. Since introduction, the Titan has been in production just under its capacity.
[edit] Models and equipment
The Titan features the 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine which generates 305 hp (227 kW) at 4900 rpm and 379 ft·lbf (514 N·m) of torque at 3600 rpm. The 2007 model has been upgraded to 317HP and 385ft-lb of torque. It is available in either rear wheel drive or four wheel drive with a 5-speed automatic transmission(4 speed plus overdrive). It comes with a choice of a Crew Cab with a 5'7" bed or King (extended) Cab with a 6'7" bed.
[edit] Features
The Nissan Titan comes in three basic trim levels: XE, SE, and LE. The trim levels are combinations of the features offered on the truck which include:
- Navigation system
- DVD player with screen
- Side airbags
- Off-road package
- Sunroof
- Big Tow Package- with transmission temp. gauge
- Sirius Satellite Radio
- XM Satellite Radio
- Leather Split Power Bench Seat

[edit] Reception
Upon its release, the Titan was praised for its combination of a roomy interior, strong towing capacity, aggressive styling, and innovative features, such as wide opening rear doors in the King Cab and a lockable storage compartment outside the bed on the driver's side. It was listed by Edmunds.com as the best full-size truck. The Titan was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004.
The Titan has also been criticized for limited body styles. In contrast to other full-sized pickups, the Titan is only available with the 5.6 liter V8 and two body styles. There are no V6 or diesel engine options, regular cab, or extended cargo bed options.

The Titan has a 5-star rating from the NHTSA for driver frontal crash, and a 4-star rating for passenger frontal crash.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Nissan is planning a heavy-duty version of the Titan to compete with the Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Heavy Duty trucks and the Dodge Ram 2500/3500 pickup trucks. Not much else is known about it except that it is expected to be released in late 2009. X61D with Gas engine and 6.4L Diesel.
The 2008 Titan lineup will add a 7-foot long bed to the crew cab and an 8-foot long bed to the king cab (extended cab). Both long-wheelbase Titans will come with a larger 37-gallon fuel tank.
