Nissan GA engine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The GA engine is a 1.3 to 1.8 L straight-4 piston engine from Nissan. It has a cast iron block and an aluminum head. There are SOHC & DOHC versions, 12 valve & 16 valve versions, carburetted, single point injected, multi-point injected versions, and versions with variable valve timing (GA16DE). The GA is produced from August 1987 through 2007. But since 1998 it's only available from Mexico.

[edit] GA16E
The GA16E is a 1.6 L (1597 cc) multi point fuel injected SOHC engine. It produces 110 hp.
[edit] GA16I
The GA16I is a 1.6 L (1597 cc) single point fuel injected engine produced from August 1987 through June 1990. It produces 90 hp (66 kW) It is a 12-valve design, and one version was built with hydraulic lifters. Japanese built 1989 and 1990 North American market Sentras received this hydraulic lifter version and produced 92 hp and 96 lb-ft of torque.
Applications:
- 1989-1990 Nissan Sentra
- 1989-1990 Nissan Pulsar
[edit] GA16DE
The GA16DE is a 1.6 L (1597 cc) engine produced from November 1990 through 1997. All GA16DEs have 16 valves and DOHC heads. There are two versions, the NVCS, which produced 115 hp and later 120 PS (85 kW) and 108 ft·lbf (146 Nm) and a non-NVCS version (European-spec) which made 102 hp (76 kW). Additionally 2 versions of the North American NVCS version exist. Earlier motors used pistons with 2 compression rings and 1 oil ring, while later GA16DE's have a single compression ring and a single oil ring. The GA16DE shares much of its block and rotating assembly with its predecessor the GA16I. Some engines have siamesed exhaust manifolds, while others keep the exhausts separated until the catalytic converter. Earlier ECUs contained the fuel & ignition maps on a discrete ROM IC, making retuning relatively easy, later ECUs buried the maps on a larger more integrated microcontroller's firmware, making retuning require the use of a daughterboard.
