Niles Harris

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Niles Harris, a Deadwood, South Dakota native and Vietnam war veteran, was the inspiration for the song "8th of November" by country music group Big & Rich.[1] The top hat which Big Kenny often wears was given to him by Harris.

Harris fought in the 173rd Airborne Brigade on November 8, 1965. This historic day started with an unexpected attack by the Vietnamese. Most of the Americans died that day. Harris received a Purple Heart for his combat service.
