Niles East High School

Niles East High School, formerly in Skokie, Illinois, was originally known as Niles Township High School until Niles West High School opened in 1959. Niles East's sports teams mascot was known as the Trojans. In 1975 Niles Township District 219 announced that, due to declining enrollment, Niles East would be closed in 1980 and all students and faculty transferred to Niles West and Niles North. When Niles East closed in 1980 Oakton Community College occupied most of the campus, while Centre East for the Performing Arts occupied the auditorium built in 1961. The auditorium was demolished shortly after Centre East moved to its current facility near Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard. Oakton Community College demolished the remainder of the campus in stages, starting with the original building, and the last portion of Niles East, the east wing built in 1955, was demolished in 2005. Parts of the John Hughes films Sixteen Candles, and Weird Science were filmed at this school.
