Image talk:Nikkor lenses.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This was initially deleted, but Stybn brought up a good point on DRV, which is that it may be impossible to find all these lenses in one place to photograph them. I'm by no means an expert on the topic, but this strikes me as a reasonable concern; we're talking about thousands and thousands of dollars worth of lenses here, I'm guessing, and it's quite possible that you wouldn't find them all together like this outside of a Nikon promo shoot. So for the moment, I'm inclined to say not replaceable, but let's hear broader input on the subject. --RobthTalk 22:32, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Just to make things clear, this isn't a vote. Not "isn't a vote" in the way that all the processes that look a darn lot like votes "aren't votes", but as in, let's just discuss the issue. So no need to put a bold Condensed opinion before your input. --RobthTalk 00:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Keep - this is a clear decision on this specific image. However, I should like to see the wording of the template reviewed since at the moment it is too absolute. I suggest where the image is unrepeatable, i.e. a free image could not be created to replace it be replaced by where the image is not reasonably repeatable, i.e. a free image could not be created to replace it or could not be created without unreasonable cost BlueValour 22:44, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Delete. The image is far and away the least informative in both the articles it appears in. I submit that not only is it replaceable, but it already has been replaced. The only reason to have all the lenses in a single image is aesthetic, which is unacceptable under the fair use doctrine. —Cryptic 00:03, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Comment - this image graphically illustrates the wide range of lenses available; seems a reasonable fair use. BlueValour 00:19, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Comment If it's this hard to get all the lenses together, then we should ask Nikon and see if they'll release it under the GFDL or something. Hbdragon88 01:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Keep I would say that no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 04:21, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
    • The list of lenses in Nikon F-mount plus the single image Image:Lens Nikkor 50mm.jpg together give a great deal more information than this image; only about three dozen are visible, and there isn't a good view of a single one of them. This image is designed for selling product, not for illustrating it. —Cryptic 04:32, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
      • I disagree, one lens does not demonstrate the subject Nikon F-mount aswell as all of them.(that is a great picture though) HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 04:41, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Keep. Seeing the complete system of lenses is informative. It illustrates thoroughly the relative size differences and general variations in construction that arise from lens designs of different focal lenghts. An image of a smaller collection would not serve the same purpose. --Stybn 06:18, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Comment Keep or not, the image clearly has to be shrunk from its current size per WP:FUC #3. ~ trialsanderrors 08:37, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
    • You are right, I am reducing it right now HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 15:08, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Delete - more as a WP:FUC#8 violation. The image use is nice to have, but not necessary. The article could do without it. Had Nikon never produced this image, no one here would miss it for the article's pages. --Abu Badali 02:04, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
