Nijemci is a municipality in the Vukovar-Srijem county in Croatia. According to the 2001 census, there are 5,998 inhabitants, 88.53% which are Croats. The town's name, which is translated as "Germans" came about as a result of a large pre WW2 German population. They formed a town and named it after their ethnicity. During WW2 many Germans were expelled by Partisan forces from the town and the surrounding area, however the town still retained its name.
