Nights at the Circus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nights at the Circus is a novel by Angela Carter, first published in 1984. It has been described as magic realist, postfeminist and Gothic. The work centres on Fevvers, a Cockney circus performer with wings. It is unclear whether these wings are genuine. As in the case with many other novels by Angela Carter, the novel employs a number of direct references to fairy tales.
In 2006, the novel was adapted for the stage by Tom Morris and Emma Rice. It was performed at the Lyric Hammersmith, London, UK and Bristol Old Vic, Bristol, UK early that year.
