Nigerian gospel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gospel music is a kind of African Christian music that has become a major part of Nigerian music, beginning in the 1970s. Tope Alabi, Onyeka Onwenu, and Sammie Okposo are the most popular stars of the genre. Tope Alabi's "Oore ti o common" (Uncommon favour) has made this unassuming female singer/songwriter, with a velvet voice, a household name in Nigeria today. Also, Okposo's 2000 "Welu Welu" was one of the biggest-selling singles in Nigerian history.
A number of gospel artists have released into the nigerian gospel market music that is quite commendable such as AMAA (Abimbola Awolumate's Everlasting Arms), Foluke Umosen, Soji Israel, Segun Obe, Samsung among others.
