NiGHTS into Dreams... Cameos

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following is a list of cameo appearances of the video game NiGHTS into Dreams... and the title character, NiGHTS, arranged by the system they are featured on:

Contents

[edit] On the SEGA Saturn

  • References to NiGHTS are made throughout the game Burning Rangers. There is a Twin Seeds Square in Stage 3, and Claris and Elliot can be saved in Stage 2, with Claris sending you a short music file from NiGHTS. Also, the gems that you collect to power up your shield and teleporter are almost identical to the red gem on NiGHTS' chest.

[edit] On the SEGA Dreamcast

  • In Sonic Adventure, the Casinopolis stage features a NiGHTS pinball table. In the table, the player can collect Ideya and deposit them into the Ideya Palace, flying through Spring Valley, and under NiGHTS. Also, raising a Chao as neutral flying-type, the Chao will heavily resemble NiGHTS, being colored purple and having two large protrusions on its head.
  • In Sonic Adventure 2, posters promoting "NiGHTS Hotel" features on the City Escape stage, and the hotel advertised is clearly visible mid-way through the Shadow stage Radical Highway. In the demo packed in with Phantasy Star Online, there were different posters with the message "Let's fly!". The "NiGHTS Chao" can be created in this game as well.
  • In Sonic Shuffle, once all characters are unlocked, the player can replace the main guide, Lumina Flowlight, with NiGHTS or Reala by changing the Dreamcast's internal clock to December 24 or April 1, respectively.
  • Shenmue and Shenmue II feature two NiGHTS figurines, and one figure featuring a Chao and a Nightopian.
  • ChuChu Rocket! allows players to replace the default mice characters with Nightopians once all the single player puzzles are completed.

[edit] On the Nintendo GameCube

  • In Phantasy Star Online, there is an online NiGHTS themed quest players can take, titled, "Dream Messenger," where a young boy says he wants to meet a young woman he saw in his dreams, and the girl is NiGHTS, who then asks the players to find four white lights (Ideya).
  • There is also a bonus game called NiGHTS Score Attack that can be downloaded to the Game Boy Advance. This game featured basic 2D graphics with 3D sprites, and only had one dream in the style of Spring Valley. It also changed the game structure so that it simply repeated 4 mares over and over, with 10 seconds added to the clock when one was done - in theory allowing the game to go on for an infinite time. The game is available in Phantasy Star Online as well as Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg.
  • Also in Phantasy Star Online, your MAG can evolve into "Pian" which looks like a Nightopian.
  • In Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, NiGHTS can be hatched from a Sonic Team egg as a pet. Notably, the same NiGHTS model used in the PSO quest is used here.
  • In Sonic Riders, NiGHTS, as well as many other SEGA franchises, is featured in the SEGA Carnival and SEGA Illusion stages. NiGHTS is also a playable character. A flying-type character, NiGHTS' attacks are references to the original game. Depending on the player's level, NiGHTS will spin dash, bow, or make a face with his mouth as in the Opening cutscene of the original game.
  • NiGHTS also has a cameo in Shadow the Hedgehog in the form of a billboard advertisement on the Lethal Highway stage.

[edit] On the Nintendo Game Boy Advance

  • In Sonic Pinball Party, NiGHTS is heavily featured, both as a pinball table and as a character in the story.
  • In Sonic Battle, NiGHTS makes a cameo as the player crosses the finish line in the "Speed Demon" mini-game.

[edit] On the Sony Playstation 2

NiGHTS in SEGA Superstars
  • In Sega Superstars, a collection of twelve SEGA themed Eyetoy games, one features NiGHTS, flying through a fully 3D landscape; first in Spring Valley then, once that is completed, Twin Seeds. The game is controlled by holding your arms out like the wings of a bird and lift or dropping them to turn, while raising both arms up caused you to drill dash. Though visually faithful to the original, the controls create a very different feel and the gameplay was changed substantially (no paraloops, no Claris or Elliot controlled sections and no bosses).

[edit] Other Cameos

  • A flying purple figure also appears in the background of dream scenes in the film The Science of Sleep that many assume is a reference to NiGHTS.
  • A NiGHTS cap is available for the heroine of Feel the Magic: XY/XX for the Nintendo DS. It is unlocked either by starting the game with a copy of Sonic Pinball Party in the DS's Game Boy Advance slot, or by clearing the game's Hell difficulty.
