Niels 't Hooft

Niels 't Hooft was born in Leiderdorp, the Netherlands, on May 27th, 1980. He is a Dutch writer and gamesjournalist and currently resides in Utrecht. He is known for his Nintendo-magazine and gamewebsite, even though both have been stopped now. He also has some succes with his books, both in the Netherlands and outside.

[edit] Early Years

In 1998, Niels gets invited to Nintendo's headquarters in Frankfurt to try out a new Zelda-game (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) because of his website about The Legend of Zelda. His current writing career is partly because of Rob Smit, who guides him to several different magazines and newspapers, who take him in as freelancer.

To improve his writing, he starts up Anticlimax and expands his employers to Veronica Magazine, Power Unlimited and Bright. Niels also started up several products of his own. The first was n3 Nintendo Magazine, a magazine that was focused on Nintendo, but it was cancelled shortly after its creation. His gamesite 'GameSen.nl' lasted longer, but after a while it closed down too.

From 2005, Niels and his company focus on writing articles for different magazines and releases buying guides for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation Portable. He also works on a new Nintendo magazine: N-Gamer.

In february 2003, Niels starts a weblog called Controllerboy.com, to promote his first book 'Toiletten'. The site starts with a few literary pieces, but later it gets the shape of a real weblog where he tells readers of his daily thing. In the same year, Toiletten was released. It was received dividedly. The book will be released in Germany, fully translated to German. Recently he started an action on his weblog to sell the unsold copies, who were heading for destruction.

In 2005, his second book 'Sneeuwdorp' got released. Niels called this book his first roman, since it has 222 pages, instead of the 83 that were in Toiletten.

Later, he starts working with Power Unlimited, the biggest videogames magazine in the Benelux, but leaves after only an year to focus on freelancing, his new site Bashers.nl and his upcoming third roman.

Since 2006, he also works for GMR, a magazine that wants to go deeper into the game-industry then most big Dutch magazines.
