Nidderdale
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nidderdale is one of the Yorkshire Dales (although outside of the formal National Park area) in North Yorkshire, England. It is the upper valley of the River Nidd, which flows south through the dale (forming several reservoirs including the Gouthwaite Reservoir), before then turning east and eventually joining the River Ouse.
It was a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1994.[1] Settlements in the dale include Pateley Bridge, Waith, Bewerley, Glasshouses, Ramsgill, Lofthouse, Summerbridge, Hampsthwaite, Birstwith, Darley, Kettlesing, Felliscliffe and Middlesmoor. The Sportsmen's Arms, in Waith near Pateley Bridge is one of several award-winning bed and breakfast inns in Nidderdale.
Transport
A Nidderdale Omnibus started operating on August 1st 1849 and ran between Pateley Bridge and Ripley Station.
