You were right. Instead of comenting we should prefer improving it. This thing should be also followed when we nominate an article for FAC and users opposes it rather than trying to make that article a feature. If you can rewrite that one line, not good looking stub into a new fabolous article then think about those articles which are currently classed as B grade articles. Hi Nichalp. Although I could take care of it myself, I just find it common courtesy to come to you about a request which you handled. Recently, you denied this request on CHU (Computerbar is the username), on account of the user's short history. Normally, that'd be right, but in this case there are two factors: 1) and more importantly, because the username is an email account, and we rename those regardless, because it ensures privacy and prevents spamming of the e-mail accounts inadvertedly used as Wikipedia usernames; 2) since the user is requesting a username that is exactly his email handle, which was, of course, used in the previous account's name, he would most likely be prevented from creating it by the account-creation filters, which makes a rename the only way to get that account created effectively. For those reasons, but mainly for the first one, I would ask that you reconsider that request. Cheers, Redux 21:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the response. Actually, the user is currently blocked, and the requester in his lieu is exactly the admin who blocked him and asked him to e-mail an identity confirmation, which is probably why the whole thing was done via e-mail. This is not unprecedented, we've had admins who handle those blocks come to CHU and request a rename that was agreed upon with the blocked users (Netsnipe has done it a few times). In a case such as this, we are most likely safe to do the rename as asked by Pathoschild. Cheers, Redux 18:03, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

I consider this one your call. :-) I noticed that the user had been blocked since early September due to username problems, and only now we are seeing some kind of activity towards fixing the problem, so I guess this is not someone that cares too much about this particular account on Wikipedia. Hello, you recently changed my name. If the name change log were kept only for the eyes administrators and NOT visible to google and other search engines, then we would have a right to vanish. However, as it is, anyone can type in my former name + wikipedia, and the first thing that comes on search engines is...THE NAME CHANGE LOG...so much for vanishing. I have an unfortunate situation of a "stalker" who snoops out that former name (that I won't type again here and prefer you don't either) on the internet and tries to use it against me.

Also, the former name’s "user talk" page still exists when I click it from a search engine. Does it terminate after some time?

By city border, do you mean of New Delhi or of Delhi State? Unlike the Mumbai and Chennai map, Delhi is way too huge and extends extensively outside the state borders in the south while the north is sparse with few villages, so the map has been centred on the dense region, cutting off the upper parts of the state, i really dont see the need for having an outline border for the state as it has no significance. Im planning to do a political map of NCR region with different divisions an districts. I have marked the district borders in the present map but it has got lost with all the other details -- PlaneMad|YakYak 13:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Cant exactly mark the boundary as it overlaps the roads, but i can change the background colour. Or im thinking of colouring the other districts light grey, so that new delhi stands out like in the mumbai map -- PlaneMad|YakYak 16:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit war in Rajdhani Express and POV in Indian Railway related articles

Hi,

There is an edit war in the Rajdhani Express article and posting of POV in Indian Railways by two users Ninnishipra and Truevalue.

They have been posting what looks like defamatory remarks or personal opinions in the article and don't cite the reasons.

Hi, The issue of edit war in Indian Railways, Rajdhani Express and Shatabadi Express has been raised by some users as they think that posting an official version of Indian Rail will be a neutral point of view. If mentioning that Indian Rail needs heavy investment or it needs improvement to meet global standards becomes personal point of view, then this will not keep the Wikepedia's standard. Further, the fact that the Airlines are giving run for money to Rajdhani & Shatabadi by wooing its passengers is not a personal point of view, it is well known fact in today's India. Mentioning that Shatabadi & Rajdhani are very slow from Global standards of Fastest trains is a fact, when TGV runs at 320 kms/hr and Maglev train runs at a top speed of 431 kms/hour. Hence, my request to you is that please maintain neutrality in these Railway related articles, towing Railway's official line will not maintain Wikipedia's standards. I am sorry to bother you, but I really need some help. There is an ongoing campaign by a few editors to portray Fascism and Nazism as representative forms of socialism. As part of this effort (a debate that stretches back to 2004), there are a tiny handful of editors who revert and redirect National Socialism to Nazism. I believe a majority of editors support redirecting National Socialism to National Socialism (disambiguation). I realize we just had a poll on the Nazism page where I thought this issue was settled, but apparently the struggle is not over. Please consider voting in the new poll, or adding a comment at: Talk:Nazism#Survey:_redirecting_National_Socialism. Also consider notifying other editors with an interest in this matter. There have already been multiple debates, RFC's, polls, requests for mediation, and some of the minority editors in the past have been warned or put on probation. I just do not know what else to do. Was just wondering if we could move for a featured topic candidacy. One major problem is how to define metropolitan cities in India? Status of Indian cities is not that much clear so far as the sticker of metropolitan is considered. Shall we make a category of A-1 cities in India? Hyderabad can be dealt with, it need not be an FA. Hyderabad not being FA is not a major block. All articles need not be featured. Hyderabad can be upgraded to GA status. Found a publication of municipality of Hyderabad with good data on demographics, economics etc. But this definition of metropolis of India is. The Hindu article says that the criterion is 4 million, but where is the official document? If we go by the 4 million mark, then Hyderabad has to be excluded. On the other hand, Status of Indian cities puts Hyderabad in A-1 bracket. IMO the definition would be a problem. What do you think?--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:18, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok. So the plan unfolds. First, let's move with "Metropolitan cities of India". The very first step is to find out reference that Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore are the metropolitan cities. Next, de-redirect Metropolitan cities of India, and create an article. And then going for FTC. So everything hinges upon finding out proper reference that only those 5 are metropolitan cities.
If that's possible, and is done, then we can move with the A-1 thing. Reference for that (which cities are A-1) are already at hand. But, for this category, we'll need to upgrade Hyderabad. That may come later. Done?--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:02, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Dear Sir, I appreciate your zeal to maintain the Indian Rail article. However, this article seems more like an official statement from Indian Rail, than a Neutral point of view. Indian Rail is passing through a very difficult phase and needs around Rs 200,000 crores for moderanisation, for which there appears to be no source of funding.

Govt is not ready to provide the budgetary support, there is only one way that is Private Participation. Further Airlines have hit hard towards upper class passengers of the railways, but being a monoply, there is little talk in the Railways about passenger services. I don't know whether you have visited Delhi Metro or not, the trains and stations are really world class. If Delhi Metro can do it, then why not Indian Rail - it is just issue of investment and attitue.

I would also request you to find the diffence between Government Accounts and Commercial accounts and then you will realise the reality of the claims of the Railways.

Further, Pay commission in 1986 & 1996 had hit badly the bottom-lines of the Railways. Pay-commission has already been setup and will give report by 2008, effective from Jan 01, 2006, hence Indian Rail in its present avtar will definately be in red in the year 2008-2009. With 1.6 million employees, the Government can do little but to accept the reports of the pay commission.

Yes, it does sound a bit weird, but given the fact that the city was called Bombay in 1993, it is appropriate to title the article "1993 Bombay bombings". Had the city been known as Mumbai at the time, then it would have been 1993 Mumbai bombings. Also, see [3]. Understood, but I'd have to disagree with saying Mumbai bombings is the most common. Googling "Mumbai blasts" and "Mumbai bombings" and the same for Bombay, yields more hits for Bombay and Mumbai. The difference in hits is only <10,000, though. I still don't think it should be called Mumbai, when it in fact did occur in Bombay. Perhaps we should get some more opinions on this. Why cannot copyrighted images be used if it is fair use?
