[edit] Re:Review

Hi! I browsed for inter-wiki links. Probably it is covered well. I am not sure about the languages that do not use Roman script!

Embedded references have been cited. Particular facts have not been used from all the reference books listed in the reference. The books from where facts have been cited have been properly wikified. In fact, one or two books in reference (eg Lonely Planet) have not been used at all. Those were added for readers who will be interested in further knowledge. Bangladesh has thoroughly used book references, but Kolkata is largely web-soutcr based.

Ar present, images seem nearly balanced. Though it would have been better with a colour image in "Civic Administration". Do you think B&W image won't do?

Lastly, even now, the activities of Mother Teresa is not mentioned. Where do you think it suits better? "History" or "Demogtaphics"? Or somewhere else? I have added the book reference from where to cite Mother Teresa activities. The book covers many things on Mother Teresa. So reference would not be a problem. Please help! Bye.--Dwaipayanc 20:29, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Could not but add "Black Hole", as it seems to be a major, non-neglectable event, at least from the most European historians' view. Unfortunately, the Black Hole is not a one-word stuff and needed one sentence to elaborate, leading to further increase in size. Thanks to the section of reference and slight increases in other sections, the size has again come to 41kb, despite erasing some other portions.--Dwaipayanc 13:34, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi! Thnks for the rapid review of the article. And also, thanks for relocating Mother Teresa properly in the demographics. I am adding the reference to the comment soon. Hope removing black hole won't make other peoples think it as a neglect. I do not have any problem, rather happy that the size got reduced. Am soon making the red wikilinks blue. BYE! Thanks.--Dwaipayanc 07:40, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Ok. First, a request, please go through the lead once more. Somehow I have a feeling the third paragraph is not a smooth read! Please see.
Thanks for helping the way out of Black hole problem. If somebody points it out, we'll use the rationale provided by you. We'll reevaluate the external links.
I'll add a pic of newspaper stall in 1 or 2 days. That's rather easy. However, not sure about the "adda" pic. i shall try. I saw some coloure pic of the coffee house, I have to remember where I saw and see the copyright status. Regarding the Writters' Building image, it's bad. I am looking for a better image. In fact, I have some good color images, but that does not get the building in its eitirety (as does the present B&W one, almost). I am adding reference to 9000 CSW ASAP.--Dwaipayanc 09:36, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi! I have got hold of a colour image of adda in Coffee House. Waiting for permission from the photographer. Shall upload it soon, hopefully. newspaper stall image should also be done in one or two days. Not sure about the writers' building though. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 19:06, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Rani Mukerji page

There is constant edit warring on the above-named page. The other users have all assumed good faith with another editor and an anonymous ip editor. The page has been protected by Johnleemk (talk contribs blocks protects deletions moves) (on my request of intervention) until the dispute is sorted out on the talk page. According to the general consensus, User:Shez 15 and an anonymous IP have been POV pushing on the page. All the editors have assumed good faith but this dispute has not been sorted out yet. Kindly intervene. --Andy123(talk) 13:28, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Kindly check Talk:Rani Mukerji or click here --Andy123(talk) 14:16, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
I see that you are still online. Could you get into #wikipedia-in for sometime? --Andy123(talk) 14:57, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Hi Nichalp -- remember me? I have expanded the Avabai Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy article which you began. I think it would make for a nice DYK, say, "DYK that Avabai Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy entirely funded the construction of the Mahim Causeway, a major throughfare connecting the island city of Bombay with the Indian mainland?" As creator of the page, can you put it up for DYK? Gurubrahma is of course the person who will help in this matter.

Also, there is an article on Bandra, so do you think a separate one for reclaimation is unwarranted? Bandra is not only big but also diverse; think the edge of Dharavi and think bandstand. Regards, ImpuMozhi 16:39, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I have provided references! How on earth would I know so much about the lady myself? Everything in the page can be sourced to the two weblinks provided. One of them has gone inexplicably dead in these few minutes, but here is the cache.
I get the point about importance. Furthermore, even in 1845, there must have been a route available through Sion etc., else the brits would certainly have done the needful to connect the city to the mainland. Would you say "....Mahim Causeway, a major throughfare connecting the island city of Bombay with its north-western suburbs" would be better? ImpuMozhi 18:56, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi Nichalp, just to let you know that I have proposed the DYK; this is the wording. Lets see how it goes. Regards, ImpuMozhi 16:53, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Kerala#The_largest_city_in_Kerala

Hi. Could you post a comment on Talk:Kerala regarding the definition of "largest city". There is a dispute there that needs mediation. Thank you. Saravask 18:30, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CTSFW RfA

Thanks! I anticipated that. If you have some suggestions as to how I can satisfy the objections of the opposers re: breath of experience, I'd appreciate it. If someone want to renominate me at the end of summer, I'll probably allow it and do want to do, within reason, to serve as the voters would like me to serve. --CTSWyneken 09:56, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Now all right

Hello, Now I am all right. I am pasting a message below explaining my absence. Best regards.

"My dear friends, I regret that I could not notify you about my absence. Actually, I fell sick suddenly on the morning of 3rd April 2006, and was confined to bed and was not allowed Internet access. Now, I am more or less in "shape". The problem was very serious infection. I missed wikipedia and wikipedians for three long weeks, and I feel really sad… for first few days, I even dreamt of wikipedia! I think that in next few days, my wiki-life shall become normal. I thank you for the concern and care, I know wikipedians are the most active virtual community, and Wikipedia is Better than the Best." --Bhadani 09:58, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion needed

Hi Nichalp,

I feel that since you are an experienced wikipedian, I should first seek your help as to what to do now. The problem I am having is with Hindi Wikipedia. The trouble is there are 4 sysos in Hindi Wikipedia. Three of them have not edited Hindi Wikipedia since September 2005.

  1. Hemanshu (also a 'crat) - last edit August 2005!
  2. Shree - last edit September 2005!
  3. BernardM - last edit September 2005!

Spundun(the only sysop who edits) edits around 10 pages a month with only one edit in this month!

With this deplorable state, it is very difficult to sort out issues in the Hindi Wikipedia. Some of us have tried to contact Hemanshu but he doesn't respond to talk pages nor have specified any e-mail address. What do you suggest we should do? -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 13:10, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Kerala debate

Hi Nichalp, I know that you're familiar with the Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram-Kochi debate that's going on. This seems to be affecting other India-related pages as well, since User:Sathyalal uploaded a new map of India with Thiruvananthapuram added (in wrong typeface) to the India article. The map, to begin with is GIF, is incredibly small and lacks any quality whatsoever. Just wondering how the SVG project is coming along, with that we just be able to put an end to all this. Thanks AreJay 13:53, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi , After a long debate it was concluded that Trivandrum is indeed the lagest city in Kerala. I was wondering why Trivandrum was'nt figuring in the map provided in India page. I think Trivandrum being the capital of Kerala and the largest city automatically qualifies to be shown in a political map much more than Cochin.--Altruist 16:27, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Wrong, it's not that simple Altruist. See Talk:Kerala. —Khoikhoi 05:20, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Wikiproject_Indian_districts

Hi Nichalp,

I am a new wikipedia user. I tried to write this article on my native district.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birbhum but I am not clear how to upload a Map. I put a Map which may get deleted in 7 days unless I finalize its copyright status. Can you help? Is that map I put copyrighted? Where should I look for a free map? How do I put up a table or arrange figures in the edit page?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikiproject_Indian_districts this is where I saw you, and thought of asking for help with the map and ask for other comments.

You may wonder why the article is not following the wikiproject_Indian_districts format..Actually I saw that format just now. Luckily format of what I wrote is not too different from what is suggested. I need to first compile all the information. I will try to reformat it that way later.

Regards

[edit] 'crat question

Since you're a bureaucrat: a question: if a user wants their *account* (not just their userpage) deleted... is this possible? for you? and if 'twere done, does anything prevent re-creation? and... where should I rally have asked this question :-)? William M. Connolley 21:33, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] request for your advice

Hi Nicholas - I know you're busy, but I hope you can join the peer review for Indian Independence Movement. Also, please give me your honest views on my work here on Wikipedia on Wikipedia:Editor review/Rama's Arrow.

I'll respond in a day or two. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:03, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:maps!

Ok. I did not know. I thought it should be. I am at once telling Dr Saptarshi (I think that's where you learned about my mis-conception). Bye.--Dwaipayanc 18:38, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Hmm! Sorry. It was let down, really, given that not only we , but even you worked so hard in the article. We have tried to improve the article accordingly (in response to the oppose). The strong point in the oppose was bad style of citation. However, I think the opposer had to do oppose! He pointed out some relatively minute stuffs like passive voice, and lack of references. Anyway, an oppose is an oppose. I again apologise.--Dwaipayanc 19:15, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Hey. ir's FA now. THANK YOU.--Dwaipayanc 20:53, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nice to hear from you

Hello, I was overwhelmed at the care and the concern. I am initiating the steps that ion case something again happens to me, proper information shall be provided to a select few, who shall be requested to notify the position on my talk page/ user page. In case, I abstain under normal circumstances, I shall surely notify myself. Thanks again to you and all others. With best regards. --Bhadani 10:01, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Detroit, Michigan - On peer review

I placed this article on peer review and was wondering if you have the time to look at this article and comment on any improvements that are needed. Thanks. PentawingTalk 03:16, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Saw your suggestions on peer review and addressed several of your suggestions, though I am not sure which sections you considered require further summarizing. Thanks. PentawingTalk 19:30, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
I left some inquiries concerning your critique on the article and was wondering if you can be able to address them as soon as possible. Thanks. PentawingTalk 04:28, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Kolkata FA

Hi! Well, even before you started reviewing Kolkata, I knew of your review styles from other review pages. In fact, I was waiting when you will start your characteristis critique. And I still feel sorry for that silly error of calling your critique "subjective" instead of the intended "objective". LoL.

What was more than expectation is the way you also directly wrote the article. Thank you. I do not have any plans for West Bengal etc in near future. However, I have atsrted working on Delhi. This time, we shall be attentive towards citation stylesl. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 09:04, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Comments

  1. I am contacting User:Muchness for IPA2.
  2. Ambuj is a bit busy nowadays with his exams. After the article gets stabilised (hopefully in 10 days) I shall contact him.
  3. SVG locator map: waiting.
  4. SVG map of the city: No idea!
  5. More interwiki links: Is there any bot that can help? Finding out manually is tedious job. I tried for many of the languages (following the list of Mumbai). However, non-Roman script languages are problem. How do you understand those languages?
  6. Talk link in yr sign: I did not get you. Did you mean the year of establishment of the city, and a discussion link to that?--Dwaipayanc 09:28, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

  1. Thanks for elucidating what is SVG.
  2. I am gradually trying to find out more intertwiki links.

[edit] Re the whole de-bureaucrating thing

Hi, I never came to thank you for the message you left for me a month ago when I stepped down from being a bureaucrat. Thank you for the things you said, it's good to know there are still plenty of good people about in this project. I do not see myself standing for bureaucrat again anytime soon though who knows what the future may bring! Thank you once again. -- Francs2000 10:00, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ahmedabad

Hello. I have few questions regarding Ahmedabad. I recently bought a book on Ahmedabad called The Ahmedabad Chronicle - Imprints of a millenium published by The Vastu-Shilpa Foundation. I found a lot of info in that book and some amazing pictures. So here are the questions

1. There are many old maps of Ahmedabad in the book taken from various sources - e.g. A map of Ahmedabad depicted in a miniature style painting on a cloth , circa 19th century. There is another photo of a painting of the cityscape of Ahmedabad by an artist called Philips Baldeaus painted in 1672. Can I scan those images and put them on wikipedia as public domain? (click here for a scanned page from the book)

2. Can you suggest someone who can make a blank map of Ahmedabad which I can use as a basic map for other maps?

3. Is there any particular section where I can put information about the unique architecture of Ahmedabad? Or could I start a new section breaking with the format given under Wikiproject Indian cities?

That's all for now. - Aksi_great (talk) 11:41, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. I have uploaded 1 image already and put it in the Ahmedabad article. I will remove the AMC structure image soon. Will also start architecture article after a week. Thanks once again. - Aksi_great (talk) 14:20, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] with deep gratitude for both

Hi Nichalp - I'm entirely in your debt. 2 FAMs I do not deserve, but coming from an FA master, it means the world. Thank you.

And I take this opportunity to thank you for your brilliant work on FAs - your wonderful work has been my inspiration and guide - and using your brilliant skills to help so many aspiring editors and FA efforts across Wikipedia. You have 2 FAMs for writing your 14 FAs - one more you surely deserve for inspiring and guiding scores of others. Thank you Nichalp. Rama's Arrow 17:52, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Guidance

I see your present work on creating a map, and find that you have now drawn some state boundaries. When you have a few minutes free, can you tell me how to do all this? It will be useful in my work here, and I would like to learn, but I'm not at all tech-savvy (live in history). If you tell me what s/w to download I could do that for starters. Regards, ImpuMozhi 04:22, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the message Nichalp. I will download the s/w and go through the tutorial and get back to you. Regards, ImpuMozhi 00:59, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bot approvals

Hi Rob! I've gone through Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approvals and the page is awfully messy. I can't figure out which all need to be marked and which all are pending. I suggest a cleanup on the lines of:

  • Archive all successful bots
  • Once approved by the committee, it is marked as such with the brown background. This then allows a b'crat and mark it as a bot and archive it.
  • Failed ones be immediately archived

Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:09, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

What of Wikipedia:Bots/Approval log? I agree, though, the page is a mess. Rob Church (talk) 16:16, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Got your message about the SVG map. Need your input on converting geographical coordinates (lat and long) into pixels on the map? I am thinking like a formula that I can plug-in into the bot. (See example). - Ganeshk (talk) 07:53, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:India/Selected article removal candidates

Hi! The template for Portal:India/Selected article removal candidates was not made, and I tried to make it. However, the result Template:Pisarc is not ok. It is not functioning perfectly as can be seen in the talk pages where this has been put, for example, Talk:Raja Ravi Varma and Talk:Cheese. See that the template shows the name of the article once again at the end! Please help to resolve this technical matter.

Many articles in Portal:India/Selected articles deserve to be delisted as they are either not india related or do not meet the criteria. It seems from the list as if articles were chosen by the whims of the editor Shyam Bihari (talk contribs) rather than going through the prescribed procedure. Please see. Regards. --Dwaipayan (talk) 10:43, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Archiving WT:CRIC

Hi Nichalp, thanks for archiving Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cricket. But can I make one small suggestion: I find it better if any sections which have had discussions in the last week are left on the current page instead of being moved to the archive page. Those sections might still attract comments from people who've been away for a few days. Thanks, Stephen Turner (Talk) 14:07, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Sure. I'll keep that in mind the next time I archive. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Image problems

Thank you for the note, Nichalp. I've tagged the two images I had uploaded from .nic.in for speedy deletion.
I was not aware that *.nic.in content was not public domain. I used the logic that it is copyrighted by the government, so it obviously got to be public content. (BTW, how come it is not free? We are the government, right?Image:confused.png).
Also, I had uploaded an image from a *.gov.in site too. Are they free? Or should I tag them for deletion too? Thanks for the trouble! --- thunderboltz(TALK) 14:22, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
