Nicolas Koeckert

Nicolas Koeckert (born 9th November 1979) is a German violinist of Brazilian origin.

At the age of sixteen, Nicolas Koeckert began studying at the Würzburg Music Academy with Professor Grigori Zhislin, and in 1998 he became a pupil of Zakhar Bron in Cologne.

Nicolas Koeckert has given concerts in Austria, Denmark, France, Great-Britain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Uzbekistan, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Mexico, Brazil, Romania, Lebanon and South Korea. He has also performed at festivals in Montpellier, Schloss Elmau, Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania, Rheingau (Rhine District), St. Petersburg (Musical Olympus), Bremerhaven, Würzburg (Mozart Festival), Beirut (Al Bustan Festival), Moskow, Basle, Lausanne and Salzburg.

Nicolas Koeckert has been a soloist under such eminent conductors as Sir Colin Davis, Lawrence Foster, Jonathan Nott, Asher Fisch, Ari Rasilainen, Christoph Poppen, Andris Nelsons, Vjekoslav Sutej, Wolf-Dieter Hauschild, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Arnold Katz, Marc Piollet and Wojciech Rajski and many others.

Orchestras with which he has performed include the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich’s Chamber Orchestra, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Korean Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra of Bucharest, the Capella Istropolitana, the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava, the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian and Georgian Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Zürich, the Camerata St. Petersburg, and the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra.

Among his fellow chamber performers have been the pianists Kristina Miller and Milana Chernyavska, the cellists Jan Vogler and Ivan Monighetti and the violinist Liana Issakadze.

  • 2002 Culture prize awarded by the Bavarian state
  • 2003 Prize-winner at the Montreal International Music Competition,
  • 2003 2nd prize at the International Violin Competition in St. Petersburg.
  • 2005 Honour "Strad Selection" awarded by the music magazine „The Strad“for his CD-recording of Kreisler’s transcriptions of Russian and Slavic pieces.
