[edit] Usage
Developed by Nicogel, LTD, and available to consumers worldwide, Nicogel is a cigarette substitute designed to allow tobacco users the opportunity to continue using tobacco in a discreet form without the second hand smoke.[1] Nicogel is sold as 50ml dispensers (containing "50 cigarette-equivalents") and as boxes of individually wrapped, single-use packets (containing either 10 or 120 cigarette-equivalents).[2] Nicogel is "a water soluble gel containing an extract of Nicotiana spp," requiring dispensing only 1-2 presses per application.[2]
Because many public places have placed bans on smoking, Nicogel touts itself as a more convenient tobacco product.[3]
[edit] Health Effects
Bill Whalen, co-developer of Nicogel, claims that the product contains no carcinogens or cancer-causing agents, and has 1/10th of the nicotine of a cigarette.[3] It should be noted that Nicogel may irritate sensitive skin, and if user has a skin disease or the product causes rashes, allergies, or red and swollen skin, the user should contact their doctor.[4]
The makers advise pregant or breast-feeding women to avoid Nicogel,[5] and assert that drinking alcohol in moderation is safe while using Nicogel.[6]
