Nick Ryan

Nick Ryan is a character in the television series McLeod's Daughters. He is played by Myles Pollard.

Nick is the second child of Harry and Elizabeth Ryan and the younger brother to Alex. He has always been the brightest at the school and the best horse rider among the Ryan brothers. Nick is the only biological son of Harry. He has inherited his father's head for business and has a double degree in Agronomy and Business. Despite a permanent limp, Nick is an active farm manager and in 2005, continues to negotiate the difficult terrain of the partnership with his father at Killarney, Harry's farm. Nick's relationship with Harry Ryan has always been problematic. But in the end Harry admires his son's independence and ability.

When he was fourteen, he and Alex went to a rodeo show. Nick attempted to ride a bull and was badly injured as a result. He had to have surgery to repair his leg and ended up with a limp. As a result he was unable to ride again, so he concentrated on his studies. Nick is a quiet, intelligent man with a steely will but he has always wanted to be independant and achieve his goals. He bought a property called Wilgul and formed a business venture with Tess McLeod in growing and marketing organic produce. After sometime, despite having his injury found the confidence to ride again.

Harry always had his eye on Claire McLeod, the daughter of his neighbour Jack McLeod as a prospect wife for Nick, so Harry could get his hands on Drovers Run. But when Tess arrived on Drovers, Nick fell hard for her. But he couldn’t tell it to her because at this time she had a romance with Alex. A competition between Alex and Nick started. He still remained a friend to Tess, even after she helped him through the trauma of his accident and they formed the organic business togetehr. But then Tess realised she was in love with Nick and they got together.

Although it can be said that the course of true love never runs smooth. His mother did not approve of Nick and Tess. For some reason she hated Tess and was determined to get her to leave Drovers. Liz tired to get Nick together with another woman, Sally Clemments, But eventually it didn't work out and by that time Tess had gotten engaged to the local vet, Dave Brewer. That of ended as a result of Dave not being over the death of his previous wife.

Despite many obstacles and many on/off periods, Nick and Tess finally took the plunge of getting together and eventually getting married. They settle into married life on Drovers until Sally arrives on Drovers announcing she is carrying Nick's child, thew product of a brief relationship before Nick and Tess were married. Later the child is born, a boy named Harrison Nicholas Ryan. Although Harrison goes to live with his mother in the city, Nick often visited him.

Nick then gets offered a job to manage a cattle farm in Argentina under contract for one year and so He and Tess move to Argentina. Sometime later Tess returns on her while Nick is still finishing up work and coming on a later flight, she announces that Nick's contract has been axtended to three years and they will stay on in Argentina. Tess also learns she is pregnant with Nick's child and can't wait to share the news with Nick. However Tess receives news that Nick was presumed dead as a result of a plane crash when he was surprised and attacked by mugger who took his place on the plane. Nick was in a coma for eight weeks until Tess received word that he was alive and he returns safely home.

Although he happy to reunited with his wife and unborn child, he is anxious to return to Argentina to finish the work he started. So he and Tess decided to return to Argentina where Tess later gives birth to their daughter, Claire Ruth Ryan.
