Nick Reynolds

Nick Reynolds (born July 27, 1933) is a founding member of The Kingston Trio group, whose largely folk-based material captured international attention during the late fifties and early sixties.

Born on Coronado, California, Reynolds provided the group with an ebullient vocal style, superb harmonizing, and an ability to convey tender lyrics with a touching intimacy. The trio disbanded in 1967 but was revived in the seventies under the direction of original member Bob Shane, and continues to the present although Shane retired from performing in 2004. Reynolds rejoined the group in 1987 and retired again in 1999.

While a member of trio, Reynolds played the tenor guitar, an instrument who's popularity rises and falls through the years (it is currently on the rise again). Smaller bodied than a six-string guitar, it can be tuned a variety of ways, but is most commonly tuned to CGDA, the same as a tenor banjo, allowing a player to double on the opposite instrument, if he can play either one of them.
