Nick Arnett

Nick Arnett is a former award-winning journalist and publisher who pioneered advanced community analysis techniques as inventor/founder of Opion Inc., whose assets were acquired by Intelliseek (now Nielsen BuzzMetrics[1]) and Senti-Metrics Partners, now part of Liveworld Inc.[2], where he is director of business intelligence services. As an early player in the modern Internet, Arnett served on the original industry advisory board to the World Wide Web Consortium [3] while leading evangelism and advanced technology product management at Verity Inc. Arnett's widely cited futurist essay, "The Internet and the Anti-net" [4] was originally published at the Second International World Wide Web Conference in 1944 and has been translated into multiple languages.

Arnett and computer industry analyst Tim Bajarin [5] co-founded Multimedia Computing Corp. in 1988 to focus on the merger of computing and multimedia technologies. Arnett's influential industry newsletter, Multimedia Computing & Presentations, was acquired by Cahner's in 1992.

As a journalist, Arnett was part of American City Business Journals'[6] startup team, creating weekly business newspapers in San Jose, Columbus, Charlotte and San Francisco. Arnett was a senior writer for InfoWorld and has been a contributor to many publications including Business Week and Rolling Stone. He received the Computer Press Association's[Computer Press Association] top news award for his reporting on a leadership split at Apple Computer in 1985.

Arnett received a B.A. in Communications and English Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. He has been a guest speaker at Stanford Business School, Southern Cross University and other academic and professional institutions.

Arnett serves on the board of directors of Lutheran Social Services of Northern California[7] and has served on non-profit boards for a San Francisco theater company, a community technology center and a retreat organization. A former paramedic, Arnett volunteers as a critical incident debriefer for the Bay Area Critical Incident Stress Management Team.

Arnett hosts Brin-L[8], the "Killer Bees" mailing list, focused on the writings of his friend David Brin[David Brin], Greg Benford[Gregory Benford], Greg Bear[Greg Bear] and Vernor Vinge[Vernor Vinge] (an honorary "Bee").
