Nicholas Eden, 2nd Earl of Avon

Nicholas Eden, 2nd Earl of Avon (October 3, 1930August 17, 1985) was a British Conservative politician and younger son of Prime Minister Anthony Eden and his first wife, Beatrice (née Beckett). He succeeded his father as 2nd Earl in 1977, his elder brother Simon having been killed in action in 1945, shortly before the end of the Second World War.

Lord Avon served as Lord in Waiting (1980-1983), Under Secretary of State for the Energy( 1983-1984) and Under Secretary of State for the Environment under Margaret Thatcher from 1984 until shortly before his death from AIDS. He died unmarried at the age of 54 and his titles became extinct.
