Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, 12th Earl of Shaftesbury
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nicholas Edmund Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 12th Earl of Shaftesbury, also known as nick ac (born 3 June 1979) succeeded his brother as Earl of Shaftesbury. Their father had been murdered in November 2004, but his body was not discovered until April 2005. A month later, on 15 May 2005, Nicholas's brother Anthony, the 11th Earl, died of a heart attack and the peerage devolved upon Nicholas. He also holds the subsidiary tiles Baron Ashley and Baron Cooper.
Before succeeding to the earldom, Nicholas established himself as a DJ in the New York techno music scene under the name "nick ac". He formed the notable collective ROBOTS in 2004 with several other New York DJs, establishing a weekly event at Club Deville. He continues to perform; in the summer of 2006, he established a residency at Privilege Ibiza.
His ancestor the 7th Earl was a 19th century campaigner for child welfare and is commemorated by Shaftesbury Avenue and the Shaftesbury Memorial (Eros) in Piccadilly Circus, London.
