[edit] Battle in 917?

Was "Opposing the invasion by the Northmen during the next several years, Niall's forces fought a large battle against a group of Northmen in the summer of 917," the battle of Confey? --AW 16:40, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

The Annals of Ulster say Niall's camp in 917 was by "Topar Glethrach in Mag Feimin", Mag Feimin being somewhere in Co. Tipperary, perhaps near Clonmel. The Four Masters say that the Leinster army was defeated by Sihtric at "the battle of Ceannfuait" or of "Ceann-Fuaid". The New History of Ireland chronology glosses Cenn Fuait as being "Glynn, near St Mullins, Co. Wexford." So, unless my grasp of Irish geography is even worse than I think it is, probably not. Hmm. Some other sites said Ceannfuiat was Confey, and they seem like cognates --AW 18:11, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
