NHS National Services Scotland

NHS National Services Scotland is the central support agency for the National Health Service in Scotland: NHS Scotland. It is comprised of:

  • Information Services Division - information consultancy, national data gathering and analysis, and statistics.
  • National Services Division (NSD) - commissions and/or manages Scottish national specialist services (e.g. transplantation) and screening programmes
  • Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service - blood transfusion services, tissue and bone banking services, and diagnostic products
  • National Procurement Organisation (Scottish Healthcare Supplies) - purchases supplies and services centrally for NHS Scotland
  • Practitioner Services Division - pays doctors, dentists and community pharmacists
  • Central Legal Office
  • Counter Fraud Services - deterring, detecting and investigating fraud
  • Scottish Health Services Centre - conference and meeting venue
  • Health Protection Scotland - national surveillance of communicable diseases, environmental health hazards and public health

NHS National Services Scotland was formerly known as the Common Services Agency. It is established as a special health board.
