NHL '98

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NHL '98 was the final game in the NHL series created for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This game has enhanced graphics that looked "almost 32-bit", enhanced organ music, and players from the 1997-98 season. This game was a fatal blow to Super NES sports games as people were leaving the venerable system for either the Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 or Sony PlayStation at this point in time.[citation needed]

The game itself was considered to be NHL '94's red headed step-brother, as the game was simply a faster version of its predecessor, complete with fancy international teams that can compete with regular NHL teams. However, the series failed to see the Olympic factor, because the necessary license was with Gremlin Interactive, therefore international play was reduced to mere exhibition matches.
