Talk:Nguyen Van Hieu

[edit] Chinese or Vietnamese
It should be noted explicitly on the page whether or not his parents were vietnamese or chinese, so that he is not confused to be a chinese living in vietnam. references should be added. can anybody find a source? it is not taken for granted that he is an ethnic vietnamese just because his surname is nguyen. the surname nguyen originated from china, and there are chinese equivalents of nguyen in china. it is thinkable that he changed his surname to sound vietnamese when he moved to vietnam, whether or not his chinese surname was equivalant to the vietnamese nguyen or not.213.161.232.4 08:51, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
With a surname like "Nguyen", it's obvious that Hieu was ethnically Vietnamese, so references to him "immigrating" to Vietnam might be inappropriate. 207.178.224.50 23:01, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Immigrate= come into a new country and change residency. Although both of his parents were Vietnamese and emigrated (left one's country of residence for a new one) to China, and he inherited his surname "Nguyen" from them, Hieu was born in China and came into Vietnam, which was a new country for him and change residency from China to Vietnam.
- That is a little bit stretching though, I concede. Perhaps it is more appropriate in saying, "He accompanied his father (his mother died before the family went back) who immigrated..." 68.161.219.240 03:31, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
