[edit] Touchdowns

I removed Peyton Manning's name from the "Touchdowns in a Game" record because though he may have thrown that many in a game, the record is intended to reflect the number of times someone actually goes into the endzone, so Peyton wouldn't count here. Just wanted to explain the edit.

Otherwise, great job adding/updating records by everyone. Bill shannon 21:28, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't do editing but I noticed that something is obviously wrong.

Most Yards Gained, Total, Season, 2,690, Derrick Mason, 2000

That is in section 3.4.2

Then in section 5.2, we have

Most Yards Gained, Season, 2,690, Walter Payton

Pretty sure both are supposed to be by the same person. Since Walter Payton was a running back, probably wasn't him getting 2690 return yards and no rushing or receiving yards for the entire year.

[edit] Sacks

Added a note that records were not kept until 1982 by the NFL. Deacon Jones unoffically has 26 sacks in one season. --Pinkkeith 03:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

I have changed the most field goals attempted. It prevously said "Gary Anderson with 650 attempts". However, www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1376 (morten andersen page syas that he has had 658 attempts.

[edit] Dates

Alot of these records could use a year next to them. Any objections on adding any? --Aviper2k7 19:24, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

No, I agree it should be stated when the records where set. --ChaChaFut 00:27, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Possible Edits?

Two things: 1. Can someone add a 2 (two) to Lito Sheppard's list? It says "# Most Touchdowns off Interceptions for More than 100 Yards, Career, Lito Sheppard" and it should specify that he has two INT returns for 100+ yards.

And 2. The "# Most Touchdowns off Interceptions, Season, 4, 3 Players" probably deserves to have all 3 players listed, as 3 players are listed for other things on the page. The three are Eric Allen, Ken Houston, Jim Kearney. http://www.football.com/nfl/records/NFLInterceptions.shtml

[edit] Most Consecutive Games Rushing for Touchdown

The recent edit to this record by User:ShaleZero (adding Lenny Moore) prompted me to look into it further. The NFL.com website shows that Tomlinson has the record with 18, and that Moore only has 11 consecutive games with TDs:

18: LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego, 2004-05
13: John Riggins, Washington, 1982-83
George Rogers, Washington, 1985-86
11: Lenny Moore, Baltimore, 1963-64
Emmitt Smith, Dallas, 1994-95
Emmitt Smith, Dallas, 1995
Priest Holmes, Kansas City, 2002

NFL individual rushing records from NFL.com

Apparently, Moore did indeed scored in 18 consecutive games, but he was sidelined with injury for the end of the 1963 season. This link details the games in which Moore scored.

It seems that the NFL includes games where a player does not play as part of any "consecutive" streak. So the question is, should Wikipedia reflect the official record as the NFL apparently does, or the way it is shown in much of the media? From the link ShaneZero provides, it's clear that even Tomlinson considers that he only tied the record. Should we footnote Moore's record?

I'm not really sure of the right approach, so I'm seeking opinions. --Sprkee 18:47, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fact-checking me there. My kneejerk reaction is to give Tomlinson sole posession of the record, with a footnote mentioning Moore. I'd much rather defer to the NFL's standards than start working out our own criteria for all-time football records (which means Tomlinson should own this one), but a note about Moore would help clear up confusion for people (like me!) who remember articles like the one I linked. There was a large amount of media hype in the runup to that game about Tomlinson having a chance to break Moore's record, and it's even referenced in the NFL Films recap; notable enough for a mention here, I think. I agree with your approach: give Tomlinson the record with a detailed footnote about Moore. --Sprkee 19:19, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

And nicely done, too! --Sprkee 19:50, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
