NFL Capitol Division

The NFL Capitol refers to one of the four divisions of the National Football League that was created prior to the 1967 season when the league realigned the original two divisions the East and West. The division would last until the 1970 when the National Football League and American Football League merged.
The NFL Capitol was a four team division. However, in the three year period of its existence it would consist of five members: Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins. In 1967 and 1969 the four teams were: Dallas, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Washington. In 1968 New York and New Orleans switched divisions with New Orleans spending the year in the NFL Century. After the AFL-NFL Merger in 1970, three of the four teams (Dallas, Philadelphia, and Washington) would join the NFC East. While New Orleans would join the NFC West. For the three years the division existed it was dominated by Dallas.
