Talk:Nexenta OS
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Probably a silly question, but...
...how does this:
- Nexenta OS uses Ubuntu ... as its base
reconcile with this:
- Nexenta OS is not based on Linux
- Ubuntu ... is a widely used Linux distribution

- Linux is the name of a kernel which was also applied to the variant of GNU which uses Linux. Ubuntu Linux consists of much more than just a kernel! If you look at it from this POV, you don't get confused :) -- mms 02:48, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

- In that case, the explanation in the article is not clear enough. As will be obvious, I am no expert on this, so maybe you or someone else with more knowledge could do some editing there? To the general reader, the text as it stands is confusing. Loganberry (Talk) 23:18, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

- Looks fine to me. If there's confusion, it's because Linux hijacked GNU, with users of the Linux kernel renaming the entire OS to Linux, and Torvalds having too big an ego and too little respect for those who build the OS he was using to even be willing to compromise on the issue.

- The wording in the article is pretty obvious, even given that context. Nextena is BASED upon Ubuntu but doesn't use Linux (is not based on Linux.) --Squiggleslash 18:50, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nexenta, Inc website
nexenta.com is just a single "Coming soon" page pointing at www.gnusolaris.org which is where the Nexenta OS site actually is.
I've added a link to gnusolaris.org, but wasn't sure if the nexenta.com link should remain or be removed.
Does anyone with more knowledge on this distribution care to comment? Kiore 10:41, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
